Chapter 7: The Interrogation in the Study

"Move,"

Commander Vance ordered, gesturing sharply with his gloved hand toward the hallway leading to Arthur’s private executive study.

The two Santillán men didn't resist. Resistance was futile, and they knew it. Flanked by armed tactical operators, Arthur and Rodrigo were marched down the long, mahogany-paneled corridor lined with portraits of past Santillán patriarchs—men who had built their fortunes on exploitation, backroom deals, and corporate ruthlessness. Now, their legacy was about to be burned to the ground.

Victoria remained behind in the foyer, sobbing uncontrollably as female tactical officers began cataloging her jewelry and designer accessories under civil asset forfeiture guidelines.

The executive study was a cavernous room dominated by a massive leather desk, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves filled with rare leather-bound volumes, and a private wet bar. Camila walked in first, sitting down comfortably behind Arthur’s imposing oak desk as if she had owned it for a lifetime.

Arthur and Rodrigo were forced to stand in front of the desk, stripped of their phones, their watches, and any remaining shreds of their dignity.

"Sit down," Camila instructed, gesturing to the two leather wingback chairs.

They sat. The silence in the room was suffocating.

"Let’s talk about the offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands and Zurich," Camila began, opening a crisp manila folder and sliding several printed bank statements across the mahogany desk toward Arthur. "Over four hundred million dollars in embezzled pension funds and illicit kickbacks from government infrastructure contracts. If we hand these over to the Department of Justice tomorrow morning, you’re looking at a minimum of consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole."

Arthur stared at the documents, his jaw tightening. "You think you’ve won, Camila. But you’re playing a game you don't fully understand. Men like me don't go to prison. We make deals. If you push this public, half the political establishment in this country goes down with me. They won't let you destroy us—they’ll silence you first."

Camila let out a soft, amused chuckle. She picked up a secure satellite phone from the desk and slid it across to Arthur.

"Go ahead," she invited calmly. "Call your friends in the Senate. Call the Director of National Intelligence. Tell them that Camila Vance is coming for them, too."

Arthur stared at the phone as if it were a venomous snake. He didn't pick it up. He knew better than anyone that the moment an empire collapsed, its former allies were the first ones to cut the cord and distance themselves.

"What do you want?" Rodrigo whispered, his voice trembling as he looked at Camila with a mixture of fear and lingering disbelief. "If you wanted our money, you have it. If you wanted our company, it’s yours. Just... let us walk away. Let us leave the country."

Camila looked at Rodrigo, her gaze softening for a fraction of a second—not with pity, but with a cold, detached evaluation.

"Walk away?" Camila asked softly. "Did your father let my parents walk away when his cargo ships crushed their research vessel and left them to drown in the dark? Did your family let the hundreds of families whose pensions you stole walk away with their lives?"

She stood up slowly, leaning over the desk toward them.

"This isn't about money, Rodrigo. This is about total, absolute accountability."
