Chapter 25: The Ultimate Deception

Camila stood paralyzed, the foundation of her entire life, her grief, and her decade-long crusade fracturing beneath her feet.

"You're... you're my uncle Marcus," Camila stammered, lowering her hand from her sidearm as the shock washed over her like freezing water. "You were chief of internal intelligence before you 'vanished'..."

Marcus Vance walked slowly toward her, stopping just an arm's length away. His eyes were heavy with regret and exhaustion. "

I had to disappear, Camila. The Janus Syndicate had infiltrated the highest levels of the intelligence apparatus. If I stayed, they would have killed not just me, but your parents, and you."

"And when my parents died ten years ago in that shipping 'accident'?" Camila’s voice rose, trembling with a sudden, suffocating wave of rage and betrayal. "Was that part of your grand plan to protect me, too?! Did you know they were going to be murdered?"

Marcus closed his eyes, bowing his head in shame. "I tried to warn them, Camila. I told them to drop the investigation into the shipping lanes. But they wouldn't back down. They wanted justice just like you do."

"And you let them die!" Camila shouted, her voice echoing off the stone walls as tears finally welled up in her eyes—the first tears she had shed since the day of the tragedy. "You sat in the shadows while I grew up an orphan, spending ten years training, plotting, and bleeding just to avenge a family that was apparently torn apart by your own war!"

"I didn't sit in the shadows, Camila," Marcus said softly, looking up to meet her furious gaze. "I spent every single day building the infrastructure you used to destroy the Santilláns. The encrypted protocols, the satellite relays, the financial tracking algorithms—I fed them to you piece by piece, guiding your hand without you ever knowing."

Camila stepped back, shaking her head in sheer disbelief. "I was never the mastermind... I was just a pawn in your game."
