Chapter 1: The First Slap and the Hidden Screen

The sting of Victoria Santillán’s palm against Camila’s cheek still echoed faintly in the cavernous, chandelier-lit foyer of the Santillán estate, but Camila didn’t flinch. She simply turned her head back, her dark eyes unnervingly calm, locking a steady gaze onto her newly minted mother-in-law.

"Let that be your first and last lesson, little girl," Victoria sneered, wiping her hand on a silk handkerchief as if she had touched something unclean. "In this house, you are not a wife. You are an accessory. An ornament we tolerated only because Rodrigo insisted on ticking a box on his corporate checklist."

Rodrigo Santillán, standing a few paces away by the grand mahogany staircase, didn't look up from his tablet. He adjusted his gold-rimmed cufflinks, his expression a mask of chilling indifference. He had engineered this marriage as a tactical alliance, a convenient shield against hostile board takeovers, and he cared as much about Camila’s emotional well-being as he did about the dust motes dancing in the afternoon sunlight.

"Mother is right, Camila," Rodrigo said, his voice smooth, devoid of any warmth. "Don't mistake a wedding certificate for power. You signed the prenuptial agreement without reading it, I assume? Good. Then you know your place. Hand over your phone, your designer bags, and your car keys. From now on, you walk when you're told to walk, and you speak only when spoken to."

Around them, the family household staff stood frozen. Housekeeper Marta lowered her eyes, a mixture of pity and contempt playing at the corners of her mouth. To the Santilláns, wealth was a divine right, and anyone born outside their inner circle of ultra-elite dynasties was subhuman chattel, fit only to be crushed under their expensive loafers.

Victoria laughed, a sharp, brittle sound that bounced off the imported Italian marble floors. "Look at her! Not even a tear. The country bumpkin actually thinks she’s people. Well, pick up my handbag off the floor, Camila. Then go to the kitchen and tell the chef to remake the hors d'oeuvres. They lack seasoning, just like your pedigree."

Camila slowly lowered her gaze to the floor where Victoria’s Gucci bag sat mockingly near her shoes. For a fraction of a second, her fingers twitched inside the pocket of her tailored white blazer.

Without a word, she bent down. Her fingers brushed against the cool, brushed aluminum casing of her custom-encrypted smartphone. Her thumb pressed against the biometric home key, activating a hidden, highly secure partition that bypassed standard cellular networks entirely, connecting directly via encrypted satellite relay.

With a series of swift, silent taps, she executed a pre-programmed macro code: Protocol Genesis – Execution Level Alpha.

"I'm waiting, Camila," Victoria snapped, tapping her foot impatiently. "Or are your hands as slow as your brain?"

Camila stood up straight, holding the handbag. She didn't hand it over. Instead, she let it drop back to the floor with a heavy, deliberate thud.

Victoria gasped, her face flushing a furious crimson. "You insolent little—!"

Before the insult could finish forming, a low, ominous vibration rattled through the floorboards beneath their feet. It wasn't an earthquake; it was a rhythmic, mechanical pulsing that grew heavier with every passing second, shaking the crystal drops of the grand chandelier overhead.
