Chapter 22: The Shadow from the Past

Camila stared at the name printed on the paper: The Janus Syndicate.
"Janus," Camila whispered, the word tasting like ash on her tongue. "I thought that organization was completely dismantled during the 2012 global intelligence purge."
"So did everyone else," Vance said grimly. "Turns out, they didn't get dism
antled. They went underground, splitting into smaller, autonomous cells like Nox Maritime and Santillán Holdings to launder capital under the radar. Viktor wasn't the supreme leader. He was just a regional director."
Camila walked back to her desk, her fingers tracing the edges of the dossier. The realization hit her with the force of a physical blow. The 2018 shipping disaster that had claimed her parents' lives wasn't just a reckless corporate accident caused by Arthur Santillán’s greed. It was a targeted elimination disguised as a maritime tragedy, orchestrated because her father—a senior financial auditor—had stumbled onto the early financial footprints of the Janus Syndicate.
"They didn't just cross paths with my family," Camila said, her voice dropping into a dangerous, icy whisper. "They murdered them intentionally."
"If that’s true, then everything you did to the Santilláns was just scratching the surface," Vance said carefully. "Going after Janus means stepping into a war against invisible powers that control governments, intelligence agencies, and global supply chains."

Camila looked up, her expression hardening into absolute, unyielding resolve.
"Let them come," Camila said softly. "I’ve spent ten years preparing for this exact war."
