Chapter 2: The Iron Gate Breakers

What in God's name is that racket?"

Rodrigo muttered, finally tearing his eyes away from his tablet.

He frowned, stepping toward the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that overlooked the sprawling front courtyard and the half-mile private driveway leading down to the main gates.

Victoria scoffed, though a flicker of unease crossed her heavily contoured features. "Probably one of the delivery trucks ignoring the service entrance protocol. I told security to fire the lot of them last week."

It wasn't a delivery truck.

Through the tinted glass, the sleek contours of a black matte armored transport vehicle appeared first, its heavy-duty tires crunching ruthlessly over the pristine white gravel of the Santillán driveway. Behind it came a second, then a third, and a fourth—an entire tactical motorcade of heavy-duty utility vehicles bearing no license plates, only matte-black government-issue finish and reinforced steel plating.

"Security!" Rodrigo shouted toward the intercom panel on the wall. "Gatehouse, report! Who authorized heavy vehicles on the main drive?"

There was only static from the intercom speaker. A sharp, high-pitched squeal of feedback hissed through the room, followed by absolute silence.

Outside, the lead vehicle didn't slow down as it approached the electronically controlled main gates. Instead, the heavy steel-reinforced bumper of the transport vehicle hit the ornamental wrought iron with terrifying force. The gates didn't just swing open; the electronic locking mechanism exploded in a shower of blue sparks, and the massive metal structure folded inward like tin foil under a hydraulic press.

"Are they... are they insane?" Victoria shrieked, clutching her pearls. "Those gates cost four hundred thousand dollars! Call the police! Call the district commissioner right now!"

Rodrigo frantically punched numbers into his phone, but the screen displayed a chilling status message: No Service. He looked up, his face draining of color. "Jamming equipment. Someone is running a localized frequency jammer. All cell towers within a two-mile radius are dead."

Camila remained standing by the base of the staircase, her posture relaxed, her hands tucked back into her blazer pockets. The ambient noise of the estate—the humming air conditioning, the distant chatter of kitchen staff—seemed to vanish, replaced entirely by the grinding idle of heavy diesel engines idling right outside the front entrance.

"Rodrigo," Camila said, her voice cutting through the panic with the precision of a scalpel.

He turned sharply, glaring at her with sudden, raw hostility. "What did you do? What is this?"

"You asked me what my place was," Camila replied softly, taking a slow step forward. "I was just showing you."

Before Rodrigo could lunge at her, the heavy oak-and-glass front doors of the mansion blew inward. They didn't open; the heavy brass hinges sheared completely off under a synchronized, heavy kick from the outside, sending splinters flying across the Italian marble.

A dozen men in pitch-black tactical gear, their faces concealed behind reinforced polymer helmets and ballistic visors, poured into the foyer. They moved with military precision, weapons held at the low-ready position, instantly securing every exit, every corner, and every line of sight.

At the head of the formation stepped a tall, imposing figure in a custom-tailored charcoal suit that contrasted sharply with the tactical armor surrounding him. He ignored the screaming staff, bypassed Rodrigo and Victoria entirely, and walked straight toward Camila.

He stopped two paces away, lowered his visor, and dropped instantly onto one knee against the dusty floor.

"Commander Vance, reporting, Supreme Director," the man stated, his voice ringing crisp and loud through the silent mansion. "Perimeter secured. Airspace locked down. All Santillán corporate networks, bank accounts, and communication relays have been successfully frozen. Awaiting your next command."
