Chapter 20: The Unfinished War

Three days later, the global media was locked in a state of unprecedented frenzy.

The simultaneous downfall of the Santillán industrial empire, the exposure of the international syndicate Nox Maritime, and the arrest of high-ranking tribunal officials for systemic corruption dominated every headline from New York to Zurich. Financial markets were still reeling, governments were holding emergency legislative hearings, and the old guard of untouchable elites was scrambling to distance themselves from the wreckage.

Inside a secure, undisclosed tribunal briefing room overlooking the capital skyline, Camila stood alone by the large glass window, wearing a sharp, tailored black trench coat.

The door opened softly, and Commander Vance stepped inside, snapping to a crisp, respectful salute.

"The cleanup is complete, Director," Vance reported. "Viktor and Sterling are being held in maximum-security isolation pending international military tribunals. The remaining assets of Nox Maritime have been fully seized and reallocated to public restitution funds."

Camila nodded slowly, her reflection visible in the glass against the bright morning sky. "And the Santilláns?"

"Arthur is in a federal penitentiary medical ward; his health has deteriorated rapidly since the arrest. Rodrigo is facing a minimum of fifteen years for corporate fraud and conspiracy. Victoria has filed for divorce and is attempting to auction off her remaining personal assets to pay legal fees."

Camila turned away from the window, looking down at the sleek, encrypted smartphone resting on the conference table—the exact same phone she had used to activate Protocol Genesis days ago.

"Is it over?" Vance asked quietly, studying her expression.

Camila walked over to the table, picked up the phone, and slipped it smoothly into her coat pocket. She let out a faint, enigmatic smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.

"It’s never really over, Vance," Camila said softly, walking toward the heavy oak exit doors. "The system is full of empty thrones. Someone will always try to sit in them."

She paused at the doorway, casting one final, lingering look back into the empty room before stepping out into the hallway, leaving the door slightly ajar.
