Chapter 10: The Transfer of Power

By evening, the transformation of the Santillán estate was complete.'

The private security forces had transitioned from an active tactical deployment into a permanent perimeter lockdown.

Federal investigators, forensic accountants, and digital forensics teams occupied every room of the massive mansion, carting out boxes of physical documents and mirroring terabytes of server data

.

In the grand dining room—where only hours ago Victoria had mocked Camila for her lack of pedigree—a temporary command center had been set up. Multiple computer monitors cast a cool blue glow across the long mahogany table where world-class financial analysts tapped furiously away at keyboards.

Camila stood by the tall arched windows, looking out over the manicured gardens where federal searchlights cut sweeping arcs through the gathering dusk.

The door to the dining room opened, and Commander Vance stepped up beside her, holding a secured tablet.

"Director, the transition of the primary corporate assets is complete," Vance reported, his voice crisp. "Santillán Holdings has been officially restructured under the oversight of the International Tribunal’s restitution fund. All remaining liquid capital has been frozen and earmarked for distribution to the victims of Arthur’s corporate fraud and the families affected by the 2018 shipping disaster."

"And Arthur and Rodrigo?" Camila asked without turning around.

"Federal marshals have arrived to take them into custody," Vance replied. "They're being transferred to a secure federal detention facility downtown pending arraignment tomorrow morning."

Camila nodded slowly. "Make sure they are treated strictly according to protocol. No special privileges. No VIP cells."

"Understood, Director."

As Vance turned to leave, the heavy oak doors opened once more. Two federal marshals in tactical vests entered, escorting Arthur and Rodrigo out of the mansion for the last time.

Rodrigo walked with his head bowed, unable to meet anyone’s eyes. But Arthur stopped just before the doorway. The old patriarch turned his head slightly, casting one final, lingering look back into the grand dining room where Camila stood silhouetted against the window.

"You won this round, Camila," Arthur said, his voice raspy but carrying a strange, lingering echo of defiance. "You destroyed my family, my empire, and my name. But empires don't just die. They scatter. And the vacuum I leave behind... someone else will always fill it."

Camila finally turned her head, her dark eyes locking onto his with absolute, unyielding coldness.

"Let them try," she replied softly. "I’ll be waiting."

Without another word, the marshals guided Arthur and Rodrigo out through the shattered front doors, leading them out into the flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers waiting beyond the broken iron gates.
