The sedan roared through the pitch-black subterranean railway tunnel, its headlights cutting a narrow beam through the swirling dust and damp air.

In the back seat, Rebecca cradled her newborn son tightly against her chest, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs, tears

streaming down her pale cheeks.

"Marcus, is he right behind us? Did Dad make it?" Rebecca cried out, looking back through the shattered rear window into the blackness.

"I don't know, Becca! I can't see anything!" Marcus yelled, gripping the steering wheel with white knuckles as the car bounced violently over the uneven steel tracks.

Suddenly, the beam of their headlights illuminated a massive iron maintenance gate blocking the far end of the tunnel—a dead end. Marcus slammed on the brakes, sending the car sliding to a halt just inches from the rusted barrier.

"Damn it! It's locked from the outside!" Marcus cursed, slamming his hands against the steering wheel.

Before Rebecca could speak, the distinct sound of approaching footsteps echoed from the darkness of the tunnel behind them.
