Chapter 21: The Alleys of Escape

The rain began to pour down in sheets, washing away the blood and mud as Rebecca limped desperately down the narrow alleyway behind the mansion's service wing.

In the distance, the wailing sirens of federal law enforcement cruisers finally echoed through the streets, flashing red and blue lights reflecting off the wet pavement.
A sleek black sedan screeched to a halt beside the alley exit, and the passenger door flew open. Marcus leaned out into the rain, waving frantically.
"Becca! Over here! Get in!" Marcus shouted over the roar of the storm.
Rebecca scrambled into the back seat of the car, curling inward as a blinding contraction ripped through her lower abdomen, leaving her breathless and shaking. "Marcus... my water broke. The baby is coming now."
Marcus turned around, his face draining of all color. "Wh-what? But we're miles from the hospital, and Julian's men are blocking the main highway!"

Just then, Thomas burst out of the alleyway, diving into the back seat as bullets pinged off the rear bumper of the sedan. "Drive, Marcus! Drive now!"
Marcus slammed on the gas, the car fishtailing wildly down the wet asphalt as they sped away from the burning estate.
