Chapter 12: The Journalist's Dossier

Just as Marcus was finalizing their infiltration route, the heavy steel door of the shipping container rattled. Thomas instantly drew his weapon, leveling it at the entrance.

"Hold your fire! It's me!" a sharp, clear voice called out from the outside.

The door creaked open, and a woman in a mud-splattered trench coat stepped into the dim light. It was Elena Vance, an independent investigative journalist who had spent the last two years compiling every shred of corruption tied to Julian's political campaign and corporate syndicate.

"Elena? What are you doing here?" Marcus asked, lowering his hands in surprise.

"I tracked your encrypted signal," Elena said, setting a heavy leather briefcase down on the metal table and flipping open the brass latches to reveal stacks of physical documents, flash drives, and sworn affidavits. "Julian’s syndicate isn't just about local embezzlement. He’s been funneling foreign bribe money into municipal zoning contracts to seize public land for private corporate development. If this goes public, he doesn't just lose his election—he faces federal racketeering charges."

Rebecca stepped forward, examining the documents. "Why hasn't this run in the papers yet?"

"Because every major editor in the city is on Julian's payroll or terrified of his legal team," Elena replied bitterly. "That's why we need the master decryption keys from his private estate safe. Once we upload these files alongside his financial ledger simultaneously, the federal prosecutors won't be able to ignore it."
