CHAPTER 8: THE BOY WHO CARRIED HIS FATHER’S SECRET

Dominic Vale stood in the rain with the phone pressed against his ear.

He could not move.

He could not speak.

For twelve years, he had imagined what it would feel like to hear his child’s voice.

He imagined a thousand different possibilities.

A grown man.

A stranger.

Someone who hated him.

Someone who never wanted to meet him.

But he never imagined this.

A young voice.

A nervous voice.

A voice that sounded like someone standing at the edge of a door, afraid to walk inside.

“My name is Adrian.”

Those words repeated inside Dominic’s mind.

Adrian.

His son.

The child everyone told him was gone.

The child he had mourned before he even had the chance to watch him grow.

Dominic closed his eyes.

For the first time in years, the man who controlled entire organizations felt completely powerless.

Because money could buy information.

Power could force answers.

Fear could make enemies surrender.

But none of those things could give him back twelve lost years.

“Elena.”

His voice was barely audible.

She looked at him.

Her expression already knew.

“He called.”

She nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

Dominic stared at her.

“You knew he would.”

Elena looked down.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

A painful silence followed.

Then Elena answered.

“Because Adrian has been searching for you.”

Dominic’s eyes narrowed.

“He knows?”

“He knows something.”

“Not everything.”

The rain continued falling around them.

Daniel and Marcus remained several feet away.

They were silent.

Because even they understood.

This was no longer just a mission.

This was a father meeting the child he thought he lost.

“Where is he?”

Dominic asked.

Elena hesitated.

“Dominic…”

“Where is my son?”

The question was not angry.

It was desperate.

Elena looked toward the road.

“He is not alone.”

Dominic’s expression changed.

“Nathan.”

She nodded.

“He has been with Nathan all night.”

A cold feeling moved through Dominic.

“Nathan has him.”

“Yes.”

“And he called me?”

“Yes.”

“Why would Nathan allow that?”

Elena looked at him.

“Because Nathan knows the truth is coming out.”

Dominic understood.

A cornered person became dangerous.

Especially someone who had spent years building a false life.

“What does Nathan want?”

Elena looked away.

“That depends.”

“On what?”

“Whether he still believes he can win.”

Inside the Vale estate.

The atmosphere had changed completely.

The mansion that once represented power now felt like a place filled with hidden ghosts.

Every room held another secret.

Every hallway carried another unanswered question.

Mia sat in one of the guest rooms.

A doctor treated her injuries.

Harper refused to leave her side.

The little girl sat beside her mother, holding her hand tightly.

“You came back.”

Mia smiled weakly.

“I promised I would.”

Harper looked down.

“I thought nobody believed me.”

Mia squeezed her fingers.

“But you were brave.”

“I was scared.”

“I know.”

Mia smiled.

“Being brave does not mean you are not scared.”

Harper looked toward the window.

“Will Mr. Dominic find the bad people?”

Mia looked at her.

For the first time in days.

She allowed herself to believe.

“Yes.”

“Because he promised.”

In another part of the estate.

Nathan Cross stood inside a hidden room beneath the west wing.

A room almost nobody knew existed.

Not even Dominic.

The walls were covered with files.

Photographs.

Documents.

Records from twelve years ago.

Nathan stood in front of a picture.

A young Dominic.

A younger Elena.

And a baby.

His expression was unreadable.

“You were never supposed to find him.”

A voice came from behind.

Nathan turned.

Claire stood in the doorway.

She no longer looked like the elegant woman from the charity events.

The perfect smile was gone.

The mask was broken.

“You knew he would come back.”

Nathan looked at her.

“You were always emotional.”

Claire stepped closer.

“And you were always a liar.”

Nathan smiled slightly.

“Careful.”

“After everything I did for you?”

Claire laughed quietly.

“Everything you did for me?”

“You used me.”

Nathan’s expression darkened.

“I protected you.”

“No.”

Claire shook her head.

“You protected yourself.”

Silence.

Then Nathan walked toward the files.

“You have no idea what Dominic’s father created.”

Claire looked at the documents.

“And you do?”

“Yes.”

“What is it?”

Nathan looked at her.

“The reason everyone around Dominic has been lying.”

Claire frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Nathan picked up an old file.

“Dominic thinks his father built an empire.”

“He did.”

“But that was not his greatest achievement.”

Claire waited.

Nathan opened the file.

Inside were pages of financial records.

Old photographs.

Private agreements.

“He built something bigger.”

“What?”

Nathan smiled.

“Insurance.”

Claire stared.

“For what?”

“For the day his own family turned against him.”

Hours later.

Dominic returned to the estate.

But he was not the same man who left.

Before, he was searching for answers.

Now he had a purpose.

Find Adrian.

Protect him.

Destroy anyone who tried to hurt him.

He entered the main hall.

Everyone immediately noticed his expression.

Marcus approached.

“Boss.”

“Where is Nathan?”

Marcus hesitated.

“We lost him.”

Dominic stopped.

“What?”

“He disappeared from the west wing.”

“How?”

“We found a hidden passage.”

Dominic looked toward the walls.

A hidden passage.

Another secret.

Another betrayal.

“Find Adrian.”

Marcus nodded.

“We are searching.”

Dominic turned.

“And Claire?”

“She is gone too.”

Of course.

Together.

Again.

Daniel approached with a tablet.

“Dominic.”

“What?”

“We found something.”

Daniel showed him a document.

A school record.

A medical file.

A photograph.

Dominic looked down.

The photograph showed a teenage boy.

Dark hair.

Green eyes.

A serious expression.

Adrian.

His son.

Dominic touched the screen.

A strange feeling filled his chest.

He recognized something.

Not the face.

Not the expression.

Something smaller.

Something impossible.

The way Adrian held his hand.

The same way Dominic did when he was thinking.

“He looks like you.”

Elena said quietly.

Dominic turned.

She stood behind him.

For a moment.

Neither spoke.

Then Dominic asked:

“Why didn’t you come back?”

Elena’s eyes filled.

“Because Nathan made me believe you would kill him.”

Dominic froze.

“What?”

“He told me you would never forgive the person who hid your son.”

“He convinced me you would destroy everything.”

“And I believed him.”

Dominic looked away.

Because the cruelest part was that twelve years ago…

Maybe he would have.

Maybe grief had made him dangerous.

Maybe anger would have controlled him.

But not anymore.

Not after losing so much.

A sudden sound interrupted them.

A message appeared on Daniel’s tablet.

One new video file.

Unknown sender.

Dominic opened it.

The screen showed Adrian.

Sitting in a dark room.

Alive.

Scared.

Behind him stood Nathan.

Nathan looked directly into the camera.

“Dominic.”

His voice was calm.

“You wanted the truth.”

A pause.

“Now you will get it.”

Adrian looked toward the camera.

His eyes filled with confusion.

Nathan placed a hand on his shoulder.

And said:

“Tell him who I am.”

The boy hesitated.

Then whispered:

“You are my father.”

Dominic felt the world stop.

Then Nathan smiled.

“But that is not the worst part.”

The video froze.

A final message appeared.

YOUR SON KNOWS WHY YOUR FIRST WIFE DISAPPEARED.

Dominic stared at the screen.

Because suddenly he understood.

Adrian was not just a victim.

He was a witness.

And whatever secret he carried…

May you like

Was the reason everyone had been willing to destroy lives for twelve years.
