CHAPTER 11: THE CHILD WITH THE VALE BLOOD

For several seconds, Dominic Vale forgot how to breathe.

The abandoned building around him disappeared.

The rain outside disappeared.

Even the people standing beside him disappeared.

Only one sentence remained.

Harper is connected to the Vale family too.

Dominic looked at Daniel through the radio.

“Repeat that.”

Daniel’s voice came back carefully.

“I said we found a document in Mia’s room.”

“A birth certificate.”

“Harper Carter.”

Dominic’s eyes narrowed.

“And?”

A pause.

Then Daniel answered:

“The father’s name is not listed.”

Dominic waited.

He knew there was more.

Daniel continued.

“But the medical identification code matches a private Vale family registry.”

Silence.

Nobody moved.

Elena looked at Dominic.

Nathan looked away.

And Adrian slowly looked between them.

Because everyone understood the same thing.

Another child.

Another secret.

Another person hidden from the Vale family.

Dominic closed his eyes for a moment.

His entire life had become a collection of missing pieces.

Every time he found an answer.

Another question appeared.

“Bring Mia here.”

His voice was calm.

But nobody in the room mistook that calmness.

It was the calm before everything changed.

Twenty minutes later.

The Vale mansion was filled with tension.

The same mansion that once hosted charity events and business dinners now felt like a place where every room contained a hidden truth.

Mia entered the library slowly.

The doctor had told her to rest.

But when Dominic called her personally, she came immediately.

Harper walked beside her.

Holding her hand.

The little girl looked confused.

She had no idea why everyone was looking at her.

Dominic noticed.

And something inside him tightened.

She was only four years old.

Yet she had already experienced fear that many adults could not handle.

“Harper.”

Dominic lowered himself beside her.

The little girl looked at him.

“Did I do something wrong?”

The question surprised him.

“No.”

“Never.”

“Then why is everyone looking at me?”

Dominic glanced toward Mia.

Then back at Harper.

“Because we found something.”

Harper looked nervous.

“Is Mommy in trouble?”

Mia immediately stepped forward.

“No, sweetheart.”

Dominic looked at Mia.

“Tell me the truth.”

Mia became quiet.

The room waited.

Finally, she whispered:

“I knew this day would come.”

Dominic’s expression changed.

“You knew?”

Mia nodded slowly.

“I knew someone would eventually discover it.”

“Discover what?”

Mia looked at Harper.

Then at Dominic.

“Harper’s real history.”

The room became silent.

Dominic stood.

“Explain.”

Mia took a deep breath.

“When I started working for the Vale family…”

“I was not looking for a job.”

“I was hiding.”

Dominic stared.

“From who?”

Mia looked down.

“From Alexander Vale.”

The name returned again.

Dominic’s jaw tightened.

“Why?”

“Because I knew what he was capable of.”

Mia touched Harper’s hair gently.

“Harper was born because of a secret.”

Dominic looked at the child.

“What secret?”

Mia hesitated.

Then said:

“Her father was Lucas Vale.”

Nobody spoke.

Elena immediately covered her mouth.

Adrian looked shocked.

Nathan closed his eyes.

Dominic felt the room shift.

Lucas Vale.

The name sounded familiar.

Too familiar.

“Who was Lucas?”

Mia looked at him.

“Your older half-brother.”

The silence that followed felt endless.

Another brother.

Another hidden branch of the family.

Another person erased from history.

Dominic stepped backward.

“My father had another son.”

Mia nodded.

“Yes.”

“And Harper is his daughter.”

“Yes.”

Dominic looked toward Elena.

She looked devastated.

“You knew?”

Elena shook her head.

“No.”

“I knew Lucas existed.”

“But I never knew he had a child.”

Dominic looked at Nathan.

“And you?”

Nathan remained silent.

That was answer enough.

“You knew.”

Nathan finally looked at him.

“Yes.”

Dominic’s expression hardened.

“How many secrets have you been carrying?”

Nathan did not defend himself.

“Too many.”

Mia sat down.

Her hands trembled.

“I met Lucas when I was young.”

“He was different from the rest of the Vale family.”

“How?”

“He did not care about money.”

“He cared about people.”

Dominic listened carefully.

Because the more he learned, the more he realized his family history had been rewritten.

“Then what happened?”

Mia looked at Harper.

“Lucas discovered what Alexander was planning.”

“What was he planning?”

Mia lowered her voice.

“To take control of the entire Vale empire.”

Dominic nodded slowly.

“And Lucas tried to stop him.”

“Yes.”

“What happened?”

Mia’s eyes filled with sadness.

“He disappeared.”

“When?”

“Four years ago.”

The same year Harper was born.

Dominic understood.

“And Harper?”

Mia looked at him.

“Lucas knew he was in danger.”

“He knew Alexander would come after his child.”

“So he asked me to protect her.”

Dominic stared.

“You were hiding Harper in my house?”

Mia nodded.

“I thought the safest place was the one place Alexander would never look.”

“Your home.”

The irony was painful.

Because Alexander had been closer than anyone.

Dominic looked toward Harper.

The little girl was sitting quietly.

Holding a small toy rabbit.

Completely unaware that powerful people were fighting over secrets connected to her.

Dominic crouched again.

“Harper.”

She looked up.

“Yes?”

“Did your father ever tell you about your family?”

She shook her head.

“He said I would learn when I was older.”

Dominic felt something break inside him.

Because Lucas had known.

He had known this moment might come.

Then Harper reached into her pocket.

“I have something.”

Everyone looked at her.

She pulled out a small folded piece of paper.

“I found it in Mommy’s box.”

Mia’s face changed.

“Harper.”

“I thought it was important.”

Dominic slowly took the paper.

It was old.

Carefully folded.

He opened it.

Only a few words were written.

But the handwriting made him freeze.

Lucas Vale.

The message said:

IF DOMINIC EVER FINDS THIS, TELL HIM I NEVER BETRAYED HIM.

Dominic stared.

Below that sentence was another.

ALEXANDER WAS NEVER TRYING TO TAKE THE EMPIRE.

A cold feeling moved through him.

There was one final line.

One sentence that changed the meaning of everything.

HE WAS TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING YOUR FATHER HID FROM ALL OF US.

Dominic looked up.

“What?”

Mia shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

Before anyone could respond.

Every screen inside the mansion suddenly turned on.

The televisions.

The security monitors.

The computers.

All showing the same image.

Alexander Vale.

Sitting calmly in a dark room.

Smiling.

“Dominic.”

His voice echoed through the mansion.

“I see you finally gathered the whole family.”

Nobody moved.

Alexander continued.

“You have Elena.”

“You have Adrian.”

“You have Harper.”

A pause.

“But you still do not understand.”

Dominic stepped toward the screen.

“Where are you?”

Alexander smiled.

“You always were impatient.”

Then he lifted an old document.

A document Dominic recognized.

His father’s signature.

“Your father did not hide money.”

“He did not hide weapons.”

“He hid the truth about who should really control the Vale empire.”

Dominic stared.

Alexander leaned closer.

“And tomorrow…”

“I will reveal the truth to the entire world.”

The screen flickered.

Then went black.

Everyone stood frozen.

Daniel looked at Dominic.

“What do we do?”

Dominic looked around the room.

At Elena.

At Adrian.

At Harper.

At Mia.

The family that had been torn apart by lies was finally standing together.

But outside the mansion…

The enemy was preparing the biggest move yet.

Dominic’s phone suddenly received one final message.

A photograph.

A photograph of his father.

Standing beside someone Dominic never expected to see.

The caption underneath read:

YOUR FATHER’S BIGGEST SECRET WAS NOT A PERSON.

IT WAS A CHOICE.

Dominic stared at the image.

Because beside his father…

Was a woman.

May you like

A woman who was supposed to have died before Dominic was born.
