CHAPTER 10: THE NAME ADRIAN REMEMBERED

The room became completely silent.
Not the peaceful kind of silence.
The kind that came after a truth so dangerous that nobody knew how to react.
Dominic stared at his son.
His son.
The word still felt impossible.
For twelve years, he believed that child was gone.
For twelve years, he carried grief for someone he never had the chance to hold.
And now Adrian was standing in front of him.
Alive.
Older.
Carrying a memory that could destroy everything Dominic believed.
“It was someone from my family.”
Adrian repeated softly.
Dominic felt his chest tighten.
“What do you remember?”
The boy looked down.
His fingers slowly curled into his sleeves.
“I remember rain.”
A pause.
“Lots of rain.”
Dominic immediately felt cold.
Because he remembered rain too.
That night.
The night Elena disappeared.
The night his life changed forever.
Adrian continued.
“I remember Mommy holding me.”
“I remember someone shouting.”
“I remember a car.”
“Then…”
The boy stopped.
His breathing became uneven.
Elena immediately stepped closer.
“Adrian.”
“You do not have to say everything at once.”
But Adrian shook his head.
“No.”
“I need to.”
His eyes moved toward Dominic.
“Because everyone lied to you.”
Dominic lowered himself until he was at Adrian’s eye level.
“Tell me.”
The boy swallowed.
“I remember seeing a man.”
“Who?”
Adrian looked afraid.
Not confused.
Afraid.
“That is the part Nathan always told me to forget.”
Dominic’s expression changed.
“Nathan told you to forget?”
Adrian nodded.
“He said some memories were too dangerous.”
“Dangerous for who?”
Adrian looked at him.
“For you.”
The answer surprised Dominic.
Because despite everything Nathan had done…
There was something strange.
Something that did not fit.
Nathan had hidden Adrian.
Raised him.
Kept him away.
But he had also protected him.
The truth was becoming more complicated.
“Who was the man?”
Dominic asked again.
Adrian closed his eyes.
Trying to reach back into a memory from when he was only a small child.
“He had a ring.”
Dominic froze.
“A ring?”
Adrian nodded.
“A black stone.”
“Like a bird.”
Elena suddenly looked terrified.
Dominic noticed.
“Elena.”
She did not answer.
“Elena.”
Her eyes moved toward him.
“That was your grandfather’s ring.”
The room went cold.
“My grandfather?”
Elena nodded slowly.
“The Vale family ring.”
Dominic looked at Adrian.
“What else?”
The boy shook his head.
“I don’t know.”
“Then why did you say it was someone from my family?”
Adrian looked toward the window.
“Because I heard him.”
“He said…”
A pause.
“He said he was tired of waiting for the Vale family to give him what belonged to him.”
Dominic felt a chill.
“Give him what?”
Adrian looked back.
“The empire.”
Outside the building.
Nathan stood in the rain.
Dominic watched him through the window.
For years.
Nathan had been the man everyone believed was loyal.
But now Dominic wondered if Nathan had been fighting a different war all along.
A war Dominic never knew existed.
“Bring him inside.”
Marcus looked surprised.
“Boss?”
“Bring him.”
Marcus nodded.
A few moments later.
Nathan entered.
His clothes were wet.
His expression was exhausted.
Not the confident man from before.
Not the adviser.
Not the person who always had an answer.
Just Nathan.
A man who looked like he had carried a burden for too long.
Dominic stood across from him.
“You knew.”
Nathan looked at Adrian.
“Yes.”
“You knew he remembered.”
“Yes.”
“And you still kept him away from me.”
Nathan closed his eyes.
“Yes.”
The answer was honest.
And somehow that made it worse.
Dominic stepped closer.
“Why?”
Nathan looked at him.
“Because if you knew the truth twelve years ago…”
“You would have gone after the person responsible.”
“Yes.”
“And?”
Nathan’s voice lowered.
“And you would have died.”
Silence.
Dominic stared.
“You expect me to believe that?”
“I expect you to believe what Adrian remembers.”
Nathan looked at the boy.
“Because he saw it too.”
Dominic’s eyes narrowed.
“What are you talking about?”
Nathan took a breath.
“The person who attacked Elena that night was not trying to kill you.”
“He was trying to erase the evidence.”
“What evidence?”
Nathan looked around the room.
“The evidence your father hid.”
Dominic felt frustration rising.
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
“My father.”
“Elena.”
“You.”
“What exactly was he hiding?”
Nathan looked at him.
Then answered:
“The truth about how the Vale empire was created.”
Nobody spoke.
Nathan continued.
“Your father did not build everything alone.”
“He had a partner.”
Dominic frowned.
“A partner?”
“Yes.”
“Someone nobody knew about.”
“Someone who believed he deserved half of everything.”
Dominic looked at Elena.
“Who?”
Nathan hesitated.
Then said:
“Your uncle.”
The words hit like a shockwave.
“My uncle?”
Nathan nodded.
“Your grandfather had another son.”
Dominic stepped back.
“Impossible.”
“No.”
Nathan replied.
“It was hidden.”
“Because that son was considered dangerous.”
“Why?”
Nathan looked toward the old documents scattered across the room.
“Because he believed the Vale family stole his future.”
Dominic felt something inside him change.
Another hidden child.
Another erased family member.
Another secret buried under generations.
“How is this connected to you?”
Nathan looked down.
“My father was that man’s closest friend.”
Dominic stared.
“And you?”
Nathan looked at him.
“I was raised to help him take back what he believed was his.”
The room became silent.
Finally.
The truth.
Nathan was not simply a traitor.
He was part of something much older.
A plan that began before Dominic was even born.
Before Dominic built his empire.
Before Nathan entered his life.
“Your uncle created a plan.”
Nathan continued.
“He wanted someone inside the Vale family.”
“Someone trusted.”
“Someone close.”
Dominic’s expression hardened.
“And that someone was you.”
Nathan nodded.
“Yes.”
The confession was quiet.
But devastating.
“Then why didn’t you destroy me?”
Nathan looked at him.
For the first time.
Real emotion appeared.
“Because I was supposed to.”
A pause.
“But I couldn’t.”
“Why?”
Nathan looked at Adrian.
Then at Dominic.
“Because you became my brother too.”
Nobody moved.
Dominic did not know what to feel.
Anger.
Betrayal.
Confusion.
All of it mixed together.
Then Adrian suddenly spoke.
“Dad.”
Everyone looked at him.
The boy was staring at Nathan.
Not Dominic.
Nathan.
“You told me not to remember.”
Nathan’s face changed.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Nathan looked away.
Adrian continued.
“Because you knew my memory could expose him.”
Nathan remained silent.
“Who is he?”
The question hung in the room.
Dominic looked at Nathan.
Waiting.
Finally Nathan answered.
“The man behind everything.”
A pause.
“The man who ordered Elena’s disappearance.”
“The man who controlled Claire.”
“The man who manipulated your father.”
Dominic stepped forward.
“Name.”
Nathan looked at him.
And whispered:
“Alexander Vale.”
The name echoed through the abandoned building.
Dominic froze.
Because Alexander Vale was not a stranger.
Not a forgotten relative.
Not a dead family member.
Alexander Vale was the current chairman of Vale International.
The man who had publicly supported Dominic for years.
The man who attended every family event.
The man everyone called Uncle Alexander.
Nathan continued:
“He is coming for you.”
A phone suddenly rang.
Everyone turned.
The sound came from Adrian’s backpack.
The boy looked confused.
“I don’t know who that is.”
Dominic opened the bag.
Inside was a small phone.
A phone nobody knew existed.
The screen showed one incoming call.
Alexander Vale.
Dominic stared.
Then answered.
A calm older man’s voice spoke.
“Hello, Dominic.”
A pause.
“I see you finally found the boy.”
Dominic said nothing.
Alexander continued.
“I was wondering how long it would take.”
Dominic’s hand tightened.
“Where are you?”
A soft laugh.
“Still asking the wrong question.”
“Dominic…”
“The question is…”
“Who else in your house has been lying to you?”
The call ended.
At that exact moment.
Daniel’s voice came through the radio.
“Boss.”
Dominic turned.
“What?”
Daniel sounded shaken.
“We found something in the mansion.”
“What?”
A pause.
Then:
“Harper.”
Dominic froze.
“What about her?”
Daniel’s voice lowered.
“She found something hidden inside Mia’s room.”
“What?”
“A document.”
“A birth certificate.”
Dominic’s expression changed.
“Whose?”
Daniel answered:
“Harper Carter.”
Silence.
Then Daniel said the words that changed everything.
“Dominic…”
“Harper is not just Mia’s daughter.”
May you like
“She is connected to the Vale family too.”
