Part 9: The Cayman Vault

The morning sun filtered through the sheer silk curtains of my mother’s private study, casting warm, golden patterns across the polished oak desk.
I sat nursing Grace while reviewing the encrypted dossier Leo had transmitted late last night from Sinclair & Black’s international division.
The federal indictment had hit the morning papers with catastrophic force.
Every major financial daily ran front-page headlines detailing the downfall of Dominic Vance: Tech Titan Exposed as Fraudulent Embezzler; Wedding Day Raid Ends in Federal Arrest.
Photos of Dominic in handcuffs outside St. Jude Cathedral sat right next to high-resolution images of Brooke fleeing the venue in tears.
It was the ultimate public humiliation.
Yet, according to Leo’s encrypted message, there was still one hidden piece of the puzzle that the federal marshals hadn’t uncovered yet.
The door to the study opened quietly, and Leo walked in, holding a steaming cup of espresso and a secure tablet.
“He’s currently being held at the federal detention center downtown awaiting his arraignment,” Leo announced, leaning against the edge of the desk.
“His defense attorney tried to file for bail this morning, but the judge denied it immediately due to high flight risk and evidence of active international asset concealment.”
“The Cayman accounts?” I asked, looking up from Grace.
“Exactly,” Leo grinned, tapping the screen of the tablet.
“While tracing the Apex Holdings funds, our forensic team discovered a secondary, deeply buried trust account domiciled in the Cayman Islands under a dummy corporation named ‘Vance Global Ventures.’
It contains nearly four million dollars in liquid cash that Dominic managed to siphon away over the past three years.”
“Can we freeze that account as well?”
“We already did,” Leo said with a triumphant smirk.
“The moment the arrest warrant was executed, our international counsel obtained an emergency ex parte freezing order from the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands.
That money is locked down tight.
He can’t touch a single cent for his legal defense.”
I looked down at Grace, who was staring up at me with wide, bright eyes, completely unaware of the multi-million-dollar financial empire her mother was fiercely protecting for her future.
“He thought he could stash his escape fund in offshore accounts and walk away scot-free once his life imploded,” I murmured.
“He never understood that a empire built on quicksand sinks faster when you add heavy gold to the bottom.”
“There’s something else,” Leo added, his expression turning slightly serious as he scrolled down the tablet.
“Someone visited Dominic at the detention center this morning before visiting hours officially opened.”
My eyebrows arched in surprise.
“Olivia?”
“Worse,” Leo replied.
“It was a representative from a private venture capital firm based in Zurich called Kronos Capital.
According to our prison informants, they didn't come to offer legal assistance.
They came to demand the return of three million dollars Dominic secretly borrowed from them six months ago using fake collateral.”
I paused, processing the new information.
“Fake collateral? What kind of collateral?”
“He pledged the exclusive international distribution rights to our family trust’s core software patents—rights he never legally owned in the first place,” Leo explained, shaking his head in disbelief.
“He committed international commercial fraud.
Kronos Capital doesn't care about federal prison sentences; they care about their money.
And since Dominic has no liquidity left, they are about to file their own civil lawsuits against him and anyone tied to his corporate network.”
A slow, cold smile spread across my face.
Dominic had not just trapped himself in a web of personal lies; he had stepped right into a global corporate meat grinder.
And the people operating that grinder were far more ruthless than any federal prosecutor.
“Keep monitoring the Zurich firm,” I instructed Leo.
“If Kronos Capital decides to file an involuntary bankruptcy petition against Dominic’s personal assets, make sure Sinclair & Black is positioned as the primary creditor.”
“Consider it done,” Leo said, turning toward the door.
“By the way, Dominic’s mother has been calling our office every twenty minutes begging for a meeting with you.
She claims she has vital information that could change everything.”
I gently adjusted Grace in her carrier, a calm, unshakeable confidence in my eyes.
“Tell Olivia that if she wants to speak with me, she can schedule an appointment through our front desk just like everyone else,” I replied softly.
“And make sure she understands her visiting hours are strictly limited.”
As Leo left the room, I walked over to the French doors and looked out across the manicured gardens.
The wind rustled through the oak trees, carrying the crisp scent of autumn.
Dominic thought he could discard us like trash, believing he was destined for a grander dynasty with a new wife and a newborn son.

Instead, he had engineered his own complete and total destruction.
And the second step of his downfall was about to claim the one person who had enabled his arrogance from the very beginning: his mother.
