Part 2: The Audit and the Alias

The morning sun cast a pale, sharp light across the polished mahogany table in Leo’s corner office at Sinclair & Black.
I sat in a high-backed leather chair with Grace resting comfortably in a soft carrier strapped against my chest.
She was breathing softly, completely oblivious to the legal storm we were about to unleash.
Leo stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the downtown traffic crawl far below.
He held a tablet displaying the fertility clinic’s encrypted medical records alongside financial transfers from Dominic’s personal account.
“This changes everything about how we approach the settlement,” Leo said, turning around to face me.
“A vasectomy performed fourteen months ago means biological impossibility regarding Brooke’s pregnancy.”
“Which Dominic signed for himself,” I added quietly, adjusting the blanket over Grace.
“He thought he was being clever by hiding his elective medical procedures under a private health trust.
He never realized that as the primary trustee of our family holdings, I have direct access to every single health and financial record linked to our estate.”
Leo’s lips curved into a sharp, approving smile.
“He thinks he’s the master strategist of the Vance Group.
He completely forgot that the seed capital, the initial patent lawyers, and the venture capital backing came directly from our grandfather’s estate.
He owns zero shares outright.
Every single share he holds is currently pledged as collateral under a revocable marital trust where you are the sole beneficiary.”
“I want to let him tighten the rope himself,” I replied, looking down at my sleeping daughter.
“Let him announce the wedding.
Let him flaunt the pregnancy.
Let him sign contracts under the assumption that he controls the company assets.”
Leo walked over and placed a hand gently on my shoulder.
“It will take weeks to quietly freeze his secondary liquidity channels without triggering an immediate alarm.
If we move too fast, he might try to liquidate smaller subsidiary accounts.
We need every penny locked down before the wedding day.”
“Take all the time you need,” I said, my voice steady.
“A man fueled by arrogance never checks his blind spots.”
Later that afternoon, I met with forensic accountant Marcus Vance—no relation to Dominic, thank goodness.
Marcus had spent twenty years tracking hidden corporate assets through offshore shell companies in the Cayman Islands.
We sat in a quiet booth at a private club downtown, reviewing a fresh stack of bank statements.
“He’s been moving company funds into a private account under the name ‘Apex Holdings,’” Marcus explained, sliding a document across the table.
“He plans to use corporate liquidity to fund his lavish wedding and purchase a new estate for Brooke.
He believes you’re too distracted with the newborn to notice.”
“Can we trace the origin of Apex Holdings?” I asked.
“Easily,” Marcus smirked, tapping his fountain pen against the table.
“In fact, Apex Holdings was registered using a residential address in the suburbs.
An address belonging to Brooke’s mother.”
The puzzle pieces clicked into place with terrifying clarity.
Dominic wasn’t just unfaithful; he was actively embezzling from the very company I had built for him.
Every dollar he thought he was stealing was a recorded felony waiting to be processed by federal prosecutors.
“Don't flag the transfers yet,” I instructed Marcus.
“Let him transfer the full amount for the wedding venue deposit.
Let him sign the acquisition papers for the new estate next week.
I want the transaction volume to be so large that when the freeze hits, he won't just lose his lifestyle—he’ll face criminal indictment for corporate fraud.”
Marcus stared at me for a long moment, a mixture of shock and deep respect in his eyes.
“Consider it done, Eleanor.
By the time he realizes what hit him, he won’t even have enough cash to buy a cup of coffee.”
Two weeks flew by in a blur of late-night feedings, quiet legal strategizing, and public spectacle.
Dominic and Brooke spared no expense promoting their upcoming nuptials on social media.
Magazines featured spreads of the glowing couple, with Olivia giving interviews about how her son had finally found a woman capable of giving him a real family.
The internet showered them with praise, calling them a modern power couple.
They had no idea that every luxury they paraded in front of the cameras was funded by accounts about to be permanently locked.
On the fourteenth day, my phone buzzed with an alert from the corporate compliance department.
Dominic had just authorized a massive wire transfer of two million dollars to secure the wedding venue and prepay for a fleet of luxury cars.
The funds left the primary corporate account and landed directly in the Apex Holdings escrow account.
I immediately forwarded the transaction confirmation to Leo.
“The trap is officially set,” I whispered to myself in the dim light of the nursery.
Grace stirred in her crib, letting out a soft sigh before drifting back to sleep.
I stroked her cheek, feeling a surge of fierce, unshakable resolve.
Your father wanted a son, I thought bitterly.
Instead, he just signed away his entire empire.

Tomorrow, the preliminary asset freezes go live across every major financial institution in the city.
And the countdown to the wedding day officially begins.
