Part 16: The Interception

Back at the private study in my mother’s estate, I stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows watching the evening sky turn a bruised shade of purple.
My phone buzzed against my palm.
I answered immediately.
“The bird has been intercepted,” Miller’s calm, professional voice came through the speaker.
“Interpol and local aviation authorities forced her private charter to land at a designated international customs strip two hundred miles north of the city.
Federal marshals are boarding the aircraft right now.”
A cold, satisfied smile touched my lips.
“Did she manage to clear the three-million-dollar wire?” I asked.
“Negative,” Miller replied with a hint of approval in his tone.
“Our international banking partners flagged the transaction the exact second she attempted to authenticate it from the air.
The funds have been successfully frozen and redirected back to the primary family trust holding accounts.”
“And Olivia?”
“She’s currently being detained for questioning regarding international corporate conspiracy and financial flight risk,” Miller said.
“She won’t be boarding any flights to Geneva anytime soon.”
“Thank you, Miller,” I said softly.
“Bring me the updated asset recovery reports first thing in the morning.”
I hung up the phone and walked over to the bassinet.
Grace was sleeping peacefully, her tiny chest rising and falling in a steady, gentle rhythm.
I gently adjusted her pink blanket, leaning down to kiss her forehead.
“The family is safe, my sweet girl,” I whispered into the quiet room.
“Every single person who tried to tear us down has paid the ultimate price.”
The door to the study opened, and Leo walked in, holding two glasses of sparkling cider to celebrate our victory.
He stopped when he saw my expression, raising an eyebrow with a knowing grin.
“I take it the intercept was successful?”
“Completely,” I replied, accepting the glass from his hand.
“Olivia’s private flight to freedom was grounded by Interpol before she even crossed international airspace.
Her Swiss accounts are frozen, and she’s currently facing her own set of federal conspiracy charges.”
Leo let out a long whistle, shaking his head with profound respect.
“You didn’t just beat them, Eleanor,” Leo said, clinking his glass against mine.
“You systematically dismantled an entire dynasty of fraudsters without raising your voice once.”
“Power isn’t about shouting the loudest, Leo,” I said, taking a quiet sip of the sparkling cider.
“True power is knowing when to hold your cards, when to let your opponents hang themselves with their own arrogance, and when to deliver the final, undeniable blow.”
“So, what’s next?” Leo asked, looking around the room.
“The trials will take months, but legally, the Vance Group is fully restructured under your sole management.
You are one of the most powerful corporate leaders in the city.”
“What’s next,” I smiled softly, looking back down at my sleeping daughter, “is raising Grace.
Everything else is just background noise.”
We stood together in silence for a long moment, watching the city lights twinkle across the horizon.

Yet, even as peace settled over the estate, an unexpected notification chimed softly from my tablet on the desk—a message from an unknown encrypted source bearing a single, chilling file attachment labeled: The Final Secret of Apex Holdings.
What dark revelation was hidden inside that final file, and who was still watching from the shadows?
