Part 15: The Private Flight

The hum of the private jet’s engines vibrated softly through the cabin as Olivia Vance sank into the plush leather seat, sipping a glass of expensive champagne with a triumphant, venomous smile.

She looked out the circular window as the runway lights of the private airfield receded into the grey autumn horizon, disappearing beneath the clouds.

Her son was sitting in a federal holding cell facing twelve years in maximum-security prison, and her prospective daughter-in-law was weeping over a ruined wedding.

Yet Olivia felt not an ounce of remorse.

For months, she had orchestrated the entire financial escape plan behind the scenes, using Dominic’s arrogant ambition as a smokescreen to divert federal investigators away from her own offshore accounts.

She believed she had outsmarted Sinclair & Black.

She believed she was finally flying away to a luxurious, untouchable retirement in the Swiss Alps with millions of dollars in stolen corporate liquidity.

She pulled a sleek gold-plated smartphone from her handbag, opening an encrypted messaging app to check the confirmation receipt of her three-million-dollar wire transfer.

The transfer status read: Pending International Clearing.

Just a few more hours, she thought to herself with a quiet, satisfied chuckle, and the money would be safely deposited into her unflagged Swiss bank account.

Nobody outsmarts an old fox.

Suddenly, the cabin lights flickered twice.

The pilot’s voice crackled over the intercom, sounding tense and distracted.

“Mrs. Vance? We have an unexpected communication from Swiss air traffic control.”

Olivia frowned, pressing the call button on her armrest.

“What is it, Captain? Is there a weather delay over the Atlantic?”

“Negative, ma’am,” the pilot replied nervously.

“We’ve just received an emergency international diversion order routed through the European Aviation Safety Agency.

Our flight plan has been revoked by international mandate.”

Olivia’s champagne glass froze halfway to her lips.

“Revoked? By whose authority? I hold diplomatic clearance through private corporate trusts!”

“The mandate originates from the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands and is co-signed by Interpol financial crimes division,” the pilot said, his voice tightening.

“We are being ordered to redirect immediately to the nearest international port of entry for inspection and asset seizure.”

Olivia slammed her champagne glass down onto the mahogany tray table, spilling golden liquid across the leather surface.

“This is a mistake!” she screamed into the intercom.

“Contact my legal counsel immediately! You cannot touch this flight!”

“I’m sorry, Mrs. Vance,” the pilot replied flatly.

“We have no choice. Federal interceptors have just locked onto our transponder coordinates.”

Olivia jumped out of her seat, rushing toward the cockpit door and pounding frantically against the reinforced glass.

Her heart hammered wildly against her ribs as the terrifying realization washed over her.

She hadn’t outsmarted anyone.

She had walked right into a trap that had been laid for her the moment she stepped foot into my office.
