Chapter 7: The Senator’s Trap

The television screen in the penthouse blared Paulina’s manufactured grief into the sterile, quiet room.
Senator Robles stepped up to the microphones next to his daughter, his posture rigid and his expression radiating false moral authority.
“As a representative of the people and an officer of the law,” the Senator boomed, his voice echoing across national networks, “I cannot stand by while corporate power is used to shield illegal dependents and disrupt public order. We have petitioned the family court for an immediate emergency injunction.”
Diego stood motionless, watching the broadcast with a cold, terrifying detachment.
“He thinks he can use the family court system as a weapon,” Diego said quietly, his eyes never leaving the screen.
“He doesn’t realize that my father left me every legal loophole necessary to crush a corrupt politician.”
Marisol stood beside him, clutching the old bank transfer document in one hand while keeping a protective eye on little Valentina, who was now quietly drawing pictures with a crayon on a notepad.
“Diego, if they involve the courts, they can demand DNA testing immediately,” Marisol warned, her voice tight with anxiety.
“Let them,” Diego replied, turning to face her with an absolute certainty that commanded the entire room.
“Let the whole world know she is my blood. That is the one thing Paulina and her father cannot dispute.”
Mateo stepped forward, holding a secure encrypted tablet.
“Mr. Diego, your legal team has intercepted a private dispatch from the family court judge assigned to the Senator’s petition.”
Diego took the tablet, his eyes scanning the digital text rapidly.
A sharp, humorless smile touched the corners of his mouth.
“Judge Navarro,” Diego muttered.
“He is deep in Senator Robles’s pocket. They scheduled an emergency closed-door hearing for tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM, deliberately trying to catch us off guard before our corporate defense team can file a motion of discovery.”
Marisol felt her stomach drop.
“A closed-door hearing? They mean to strip us of custody before we even have a chance to speak.”
“Not if we flip the board first,” Diego said, tossing the tablet onto the glass table.
He walked over to the secure wall safe hidden behind a minimalist art piece, spun the heavy dial, and pulled out a thick, black leather folder stamped with a confidential classification.
“What is that?” Marisol asked, walking closer.
Diego opened the folder, revealing a collection of audited financial records, offshore bank transfers, and wire receipts linking Senator Robles directly to illicit construction kickbacks and municipal embezzlement.
“This is the real reason Senator Robles wanted Paulina to marry into the Villaseñor family,” Diego said darkly.
“He needed our corporate shield to hide his stolen billions.”

He looked down at Marisol, his gaze softening with a raw, fierce tenderness.
“Get your things packed, Marisol. Tonight, we move into the secure ancestral estate in Valle de Bravo. Tomorrow morning, we aren't going to family court to defend ourselves. We are going there to arrest a Senator.”
