Chapter 15: The Sky Above the Capital

The cabin of the Gulfstream G650 was bathed in the soft, amber glow of instrument panels as it sliced through the midnight clouds thirty thousand feet above Mexico City.
Diego sat in the executive leather seat, his fingers resting casually on the polished mahogany table while the reinforced black drive case containing Senator Robles’s financial ruin sat directly in front of him.
Through the triple-paned cabin windows, two gray Mexican Air Force interceptor jets flew in tight, aggressive formation on either side of the corporate aircraft, their navigation lights blinking like cold mechanical eyes.
The pilot’s voice crackled nervously over the cockpit intercom.
“Mr. Villaseñor, we are being ordered to divert immediately to the military air base outside Santa Fe. They’re threatening to fire warning shots if we don't comply.”
Diego didn’t blink.
He unclipped his satellite phone from his belt, dialed a pre-programmed encrypted code, and pressed it to his ear.
“Put me through to Chief Justice Morales,” Diego ordered calmly.
A sharp click echoed through the line, followed by the tired, authoritative voice of the nation’s highest-ranking legal official.
“This had better be good, Diego. You woke me up at two in the morning,” the Chief Justice said with a heavy sigh.
“Look out your window, Your Honor,” Diego replied smoothly.
“I am currently being illegally hijacked by Senator Robles’s corrupt air defense faction because I am carrying the audited bank records of his entire embezzlement ring.”
A heavy, stunned silence stretched across the secure line for three seconds.
“Tell your pilot to maintain his heading toward the civilian international terminal,” the Chief Justice commanded, his voice suddenly sharp as steel.
“I have federal marshals waiting on the tarmac with a signed arrest warrant for the Senator and every co-conspirator involved.”
A triumphant, dangerous smile touched the corners of Diego’s lips.
“Understood, Your Honor. I’ll be touching down in ten minutes.”

He clicked off the phone, looked out at the menacing military jets hovering outside, and whispered to himself,
“Let’s see how fast you run when the cage door finally closes.”
