Chapter 14: The Midnight Flight

The cold blue light of the secure bunker console illuminated Marisol’s face as Paulina’s final threatening words echoed in her mind.

Diego’s private jet is intercepted over Mexico City airspace.

“Mateo,” Marisol said sharply, turning away from the dead screen.

“Track Diego’s private transponder right now.”

Mateo’s fingers flew across the keyboard, bringing up a live radar map of central Mexico.

A tiny green blip representing the Villaseñor corporate Gulfstream was cruising at thirty thousand feet, cutting a lonely path through the dark midnight clouds toward the capital.

“He’s airborne,” Mateo reported, his voice tight with anxiety.

“And according to the flight path, he’s heading straight into a restricted military corridor.”

Marisol’s heart skipped a beat.

Senator Robles still had deep ties within the federal aviation authority and air defense command.

If they declared Diego’s aircraft a security threat, they could force it down—or worse, eliminate it under the guise of an anti-terrorism protocol.

“Can we patch into his onboard communications?” Marisol asked, stepping closer to the master console.

“Yes, but the channel will be heavily encrypted,” Mateo replied, hitting a sequence of override keys.

“Connecting now.”

Static hissed through the bunker’s speakers for a few tense seconds before Diego’s calm, commanding voice filled the room.

“This is Villaseñor actual. State your authorization code.”

“Diego! It’s Marisol,” she cried out into the desk mic, the panic she had suppressed all night finally breaking through her voice.

“Paulina just broadcasted from an unlisted terminal. Her father is setting a trap for your flight over the city.”

A heavy silence hung on the line for a moment.

When Diego spoke again, his tone was entirely unshakeable.

“I know, Marisol. My radar is already lit up with two federal interceptors trailing my tail.”

“Then turn around! Land back here!” she pleaded, tears spilling over her lashes.

“I can’t,” Diego replied softly, a faint, tender warmth cutting through the digital static.

“Because the only way to end this war once and for all is to hand these files directly to the Supreme Court justices waiting for me at the hangar. Keep Valentina safe. I’ll see you when the sun rises.”

The line clicked dead.

Marisol stared at the frozen radar screen as the green blip continued its steady, relentless march toward the capital, unaware of the storm waiting for it in the dark.
