Chapter 6 - The Unknown Ally
Julian stared at the glowing screen of his phone, completely stunned.
"I have her, but I am not on their side."
Could this be a cruel trick by Vanessa to mess with his head?
He quickly typed back: "Prove it."
Ten seconds later, a photo arrived.
It was a picture of Elena sitting in the backseat of a car, holding her favorite stuffed rabbit.
The rabbit he had secretly given her just yesterday.
Julian let out a massive sigh of relief, knowing she was at least temporarily safe.
"Who are you?" Julian texted back rapidly.
The typing bubble appeared and disappeared for a frustrating minute.
Finally, the response came: "Someone who hates Vanessa just as much as you do."
Julian rushed downstairs to check on his mother.
Eleanor was sitting on the sofa, clutching her chest, but she was unharmed.
"They took her, Julian," Eleanor cried, tears spilling down her wrinkled cheeks.
"No, Mom, someone else took her," Julian explained, showing her the photo.
Eleanor squinted at the picture and let out a sharp gasp.
"Julian, look at the reflection in the car window," she pointed with a shaking finger.
Julian zoomed in on the dark glass behind Elena’s head.
Reflected in the window was the face of the driver.
Julian felt the blood completely drain from his face.
It was a face he hadn't seen in over five years.

But Sarah was supposed to be dead.
