Chapter 2 - The Hidden Camera

Julian stared at the small object in his mother’s trembling hand.
It was a micro-USB drive, the kind used for hidden security cameras.
Vanessa took a step backward, her perfectly composed mask finally shattering.
“Eleanor, what is that?” Julian asked, his voice low and dangerous.
“The truth,” Eleanor replied, glaring daggers at the woman who had terrorized her granddaughter.
Vanessa desperately lunged forward to snatch the drive, but Julian caught her wrist in a vice-like grip.
“Don’t touch her,” Julian growled, shoving Vanessa away.
Vanessa stumbled, her mind racing to formulate a new, believable lie.
“Julian, she’s confused, her medication is making her hallucinate!” Vanessa cried out in fake panic.
But Julian wasn’t listening to her anymore.
He gently scooped up the crying Elena, pressing her small head against his shoulder.
“Maria!” Julian shouted, and the loyal housekeeper immediately came running from the kitchen.
“Take Elena to her room and lock the door,” he ordered.
As Maria hurried away with the child, Julian turned his attention back to his wife.
He walked over to his laptop sitting on the study desk.
Vanessa’s breathing became shallow and erratic.
If he plugged that drive in, her life of luxury would be over forever.
She looked frantically around the room for a way out.
Julian inserted the drive, and a video file immediately popped up on the screen.
He double-clicked it, and the high-definition footage began to play.
What Julian saw on the screen made his blood run absolutely cold.

But it wasn't just Vanessa in the video.
There was someone else standing in the room with her.
