Chapter 19 - The Interrogation

Three days later, Julian sat in a sterile, brightly lit FBI interrogation room.

A stoic federal agent across the table was sorting through a massive pile of documents.

"The flash drive provided everything," the agent confirmed, not looking up.

"We dismantled Thorne's entire syndicate, seized all assets, and froze their accounts."

Julian let out a long, exhausted sigh of genuine relief.

"What about Vanessa?" Julian asked, his voice rough from lack of sleep.

The agent finally looked up, his expression completely unreadable.

"She survived the surgery, barely," the agent replied.

"She is currently under heavy guard at the federal hospital."

Julian nodded slowly, wrestling with the complicated feelings about his treacherous ex-wife.

She had ruined his life, yet she had ultimately helped save his family.

"She is facing multiple life sentences for fraud, kidnapping, and conspiracy," the agent continued.

"However, she has offered a very interesting plea deal."

Julian leaned forward, his curiosity piqued.

"What kind of deal?" he asked.

"She claims to know the location of a secondary syndicate vault," the agent explained.

"But she will only give us the coordinates if you visit her in person."

Julian felt a cold shiver run down his spine.

Vanessa was always playing a game, always manipulating the board.

"I don't want anything to do with her," Julian stated firmly.

The agent sighed, closing the thick file folder.

"She said you would say that.

She told me to give you this."

The agent slid a small, sealed envelope across the metal table.

Julian cautiously picked it up and ripped it open.

Inside was a single piece of paper with a handwritten note.

It read: "I know who really caused Sarah's boat accident.

It wasn't me."

Chapter 20 The Aftermath

Julian walked out of the federal building, the bright afternoon sun blinding him temporarily.

He crumpled Vanessa's mysterious note in his fist, shoving it deep into his pocket.

He wouldn't let her poisonous mind games ruin his second chance at happiness.

Sarah was waiting for him by the car, holding Elena's hand tightly.

Elena looked up and smiled, the fear finally gone from her innocent eyes.

Her hands were healing, wrapped in clean, white bandages.

Eleanor was sitting in the passenger seat, looking stronger than she had in years.

Julian walked over and wrapped his arms around Sarah, kissing her forehead gently.

"Is it over?" Sarah asked softly, leaning into his warm embrace.

"It's completely over," Julian lied, not wanting to mention the note just yet.

They got into the car and drove away from the city, heading toward a new beginning.

They had decided to move to a quiet coastal town, far away from the syndicate and the past.

As they drove, Julian watched his daughter sleep peacefully in the rearview mirror.

He had his family back, and that was the only thing that truly mattered.

But deep down, a nagging, dark curiosity clawed at the back of his mind.

If Vanessa hadn't sabotaged Sarah's boat five years ago, who did?

He looked over at his mother, Eleanor, who was staring blankly out the window.

For a brief second, he noticed a strange, cold expression on her wrinkled face.

Julian quickly looked back at the road, a new feeling of dread washing over him.

The syndicate was destroyed, and Vanessa was safely behind bars.

But as the dark clouds rolled in over the highway, Julian realized one terrifying truth.

The real monster might still be sitting right inside his car.
