Chapter 6: The Vote Against Her

The decision took effect immediately.
Elena’s executive access disappeared before she left the room.
Her private office was locked.
Her voting authority was suspended.
Her security detail was reassigned.
Lucas became interim controlling shareholder, while an outside receiver assumed authority over Voss Global’s daily operations.
Damian watched the hearing through a secure video connection.
His assets remained frozen, but his confidence had returned.
“You should have stayed quiet,” he told Elena through the screen.
Elena looked directly into the camera.
“You still think this is about you.”
His smile faded.
The directors left in silence.
Julian remained seated.
Elena walked past him without speaking.
“Trust the person who votes against you,” he said.
She stopped.
“What?”
Julian removed an old brass key from his pocket.
“Your father gave me this before he died. He made me promise not to use it unless the board removed you.”
Elena stared at the key.
“You could have told me.”
“Then the people watching you would have known.”
“Who is watching me?”
“Everyone.”
Julian led her to a private elevator hidden behind the boardroom library.
The key activated a floor that did not appear on the control panel.
Below the main archives was a smaller room built during the company’s first expansion.
Inside were shelves of handwritten ledgers and sealed recordings.
On the desk sat an envelope addressed to Elena in her father’s handwriting.
She opened it.
Elena, if you are reading this, someone has used the company’s safeguards against you. Do not fight to keep your title. Let them believe they have taken it. Power reveals people most clearly when they think no one can stop them.
Elena read the next line.
Julian will vote against you. Trust him.
She looked at the CEO.
“You knew this would happen?”
“I knew your father feared it might.”
The final paragraph contained a warning.
The threat will not come from Damian Cross. Men like Damian are too proud to hide their intentions. Look for the person who understands our legal structure, our security systems, and the weaknesses of both my children.
Elena slowly lowered the letter.
Only a few people understood all three.
Lucas.
Julian.
Mara.
And Thomas Reed.
Julian’s phone rang.
He answered, listened for three seconds, and turned pale.
“What happened?” Elena asked.
“Federal agents just arrested Mara Bell.”
“For what?”
Julian looked toward the hidden room’s open door.
“She was found inside Thomas Reed’s house.”
May you like
“And Thomas?”
“He’s missing.”
