# Chapter 20: The New Reign

Sunlight streamed through the blinds of the private recovery room.
Evelyn slowly opened her eyes.
Her body felt heavy, bruised, and completely drained.
Adrian was sitting by her bedside.
He looked as though he had not slept in a decade.
“You’re awake,” he said softly.
He leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
“The baby?” she panicked, trying to sit up.
“He is perfect,” Adrian soothed, gently pushing her back against the pillows.
“He is small, but he is a fighter.”
“Just like his mother.”
Evelyn let out a sob of pure relief.
She reached for Adrian’s hand and held it tightly.
“Is it over?” she asked.
“Charles and Richard are in federal custody without bail,” Adrian confirmed.
“They will never hurt us again.”
He hesitated for a moment.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the folded adoption papers.
“There is something else, Evie,” he said.
He carefully explained everything Martin had given him.
He watched her face as she processed the truth of her lineage.
She was a Vale.
She was the heir to the very empire that had tried to destroy her.
Evelyn stared at the papers in silence.
She traced the name of the biological mother she had never known.
“Half the company is legally yours,” Adrian said.
“You can dismantle it.”
“You can sell it.”
“You can do whatever you want.”
Evelyn looked out the window at the sprawling city below.
A fierce, quiet strength settled over her features.
“I don’t want to destroy it,” she finally said.
She turned back to look at her husband.
Her eyes were clear and determined.
“I want to run it.”
A slow, incredibly proud smile spread across Adrian’s face.
May you like
“Then we will run it together,” he promised.
He kissed her deeply, sealing the end of their secrets and the beginning of their reign.
