# Chapter 12: Interception

Evelyn threw herself into the backseat.
The car sped away before she had even closed the door.
She leaned against the leather seats, panting heavily.
Rain drummed aggressively against the tinted windows.
“Why are you helping me?” Evelyn demanded.
She glared at Bianca.
“You tried to destroy me on national television yesterday.”
Bianca stared straight ahead at the divider.
Her hands were shaking in her lap.
“I thought you were just a gold digger,” Bianca said.
Her voice cracked.
“I didn’t know about any of this until an hour ago.”
Evelyn watched her closely.
“Didn’t know about what?”
“My father,” Bianca whispered.
She turned to look at Evelyn.
Tears were streaming down her perfectly contoured face.
“He isn’t in a coma.”
“I found him packing a bag in his private study.”
Bianca swallowed hard.
“He was transferring millions of dollars to an offshore account.”
“He told me to pack my things and run.”
Evelyn realized Charles was burning the entire house down to save himself.
“He framed Adrian to buy himself time to escape,” Evelyn said.
Bianca nodded.
“And my Uncle Richard is helping him,” Evelyn added.
“Where is your father going?”
Bianca pulled a crumpled piece of paper from her clutch.
“He booked a private charter flight out of the old airstrip upstate.”
She handed the paper to Evelyn.
“It leaves in exactly two hours.”
Evelyn looked at the flight details.
“If he gets on that plane, Adrian will go to prison for the rest of his life,” Evelyn said.
“We have to stop him.”
“We are going to the airstrip right now,” Bianca said.
She leaned forward and tapped the glass divider.
“Step on it,” she told the driver.
The car surged forward into the stormy night.
Suddenly, a massive SUV swerved into their lane.

It slammed violently into the side of their car.
Metal crunched as the vehicle spun wildly out of control.
