Chapter 4 – The Trial That Changed Everything
Six months later...
The courtroom was completely full.
Journalists lined every aisle.
Vanessa sat beside her defense attorney, no longer wearing designer confidence.
Across the room sat Khloe.
Still walking carefully.
Her infant daughter rested peacefully in her arms.
When Harrison stood to question Vanessa, the courtroom became perfectly still.
He played the surveillance footage.
Frame by frame.
Then he asked only one question.
"Did anyone force your hands forward?"
Vanessa looked toward the jury.
"No."
"Did Khloe threaten you?"
"No."
"Then why did you push her?"
Silence.
Long enough for every juror to notice.
Finally she whispered,
"I thought he'd choose me."
No one spoke.
The answer explained everything.
It excused nothing.
Later, Richard took the witness stand.
He admitted he had known about the affair for nearly two years.
He admitted he failed to protect his wife.
