Chapter 3: Vanessa's Last Bargain
Vanessa hid inside a luxury mountain resort, believing Harrison would negotiate.
She was wrong.
Forty-eight hours later, state police arrived with a warrant.
She was escorted into an interrogation room.
Waiting inside wasn't Harrison.
It was Khloe.
Still recovering from surgery.
Walking slowly with determination.
Vanessa stared at her in disbelief.
"You should've died."
The room became silent.
Khloe looked directly into the woman who had tried to kill both her and her child.
"You stole my husband."
"You stole my marriage."
"You almost stole my daughter."
She paused.
"But you'll never steal my peace."
Vanessa laughed nervously.
"You have no witnesses."
The interrogation room door opened.
More than twenty courthouse employees entered one after another.
Judges.
Clerks.
Lawyers.
Security officers.
Every one of them had witnessed the shove.
Then Harrison entered carrying the courthouse surveillance footage.
The screen showed Vanessa extending both hands.
The push.
Khloe falling backward.
Vanessa's smile disappearing.

Her knees buckled before the video even ended.
For the first time in her life, Vanessa realized there was no escape.
