CHAPTER 11 — THE TRUSTEE WHO SOLD THEM OUT

The trustee’s name was Samuel Grayson.

He had served Khloe’s father for more than twenty years.

Khloe remembered him attending family holidays, memorial services, and her wedding.

He had once called her his second daughter.

Now he was standing beside Richard in a secret recording.

Samuel admitted that Richard had been paying him for years.

In exchange, he delayed the share transfer, concealed amendments to the trust, and reported Khloe’s private legal decisions to the Thorne family.

“Why?” Khloe asked when he was brought in for questioning.

Samuel could not look at her.

“My investment firm was failing.”

“My father trusted you.”

“I intended to repay the money.”

“You helped them target my child.”

“I did not know they would use violence.”

“You knew enough to remain silent afterward.”

Samuel surrendered the original trust documents.

The final page contained an amendment no one had seen.

If any trustee acted against Khloe or her child, control would transfer immediately to a sole emergency guardian selected by her father.

The guardian was Adrian Cole.

With one signature, Adrian removed Samuel, dismissed Richard’s legal challenge, and transferred fifty-one percent of the company’s voting authority to Khloe as Ava’s guardian.

Richard was officially removed as chairman before sunset.

Marcus refused to resume his role as chief executive.

“I will not lead the company until every illegal account is exposed,” he told the board.

Khloe became interim chairwoman.

Her first order froze Richard’s assets.

Her second protected employee salaries and retirement funds.

Her third authorized full cooperation with federal investigators.

That evening, Richard entered the corporate headquarters using an emergency access code Samuel had failed to disable.

He went directly to the archives.

Security cameras showed him carrying gasoline and a metal case.

Marcus arrived moments before Richard could destroy the financial records.

Father and son faced each other inside the darkened archive room.

“You gave everything to her,” Richard said.

“She did not betray me.”

“She took your company.”

“It was never mine.”

Richard opened the metal case.

Inside was not a weapon.

It was a second set of documents.

“You think Daniel Cole was your wife’s hero?” Richard asked. “Read these, and you may never be able to look at Khloe again.”

The documents carried Daniel Cole’s signature.

They appeared to prove that Khloe’s father had approved the illegal financial network from the beginning.
