CHAPTER 1 — THE FOOTAGE DIDN’T LIE

Dr. Adrian Cole reached the private suite less than thirty seconds after Marcus opened the door.
He was not wearing a white coat.
He was still dressed in the dark blue suit he had worn while speaking at the charity gala downstairs. But the moment he saw his pregnant niece curled on the marble floor, his expression changed from confusion to something far colder.
“Do not touch her,” Adrian ordered.
Marcus stopped immediately.
A medical team rushed into the room behind him. Two nurses knelt beside Khloe while another checked the fetal monitor attached beneath her dress.

“Khloe, can you hear me?” Adrian asked.
Her eyelids fluttered.
“My baby…”
“We’re checking her now.”
Isabella began backing toward the door.
“I told you what happened,” she said shakily. “She attacked me first.”
Adrian slowly turned toward her.
“You should stop talking.”
“She came at me.”
“You should stop lying, too.”
The monitor emitted a rapid series of alarms.
One of the nurses looked up.
“The baby’s heart rate is dropping.”
Every trace of anger disappeared from Adrian’s face.
“Move her to the operating floor. Now.”
As the medical team lifted Khloe onto a stretcher, Marcus reached for her hand.
She pulled away.
It was a small movement.
Weak.
But it struck him harder than any accusation.
Security officers entered the suite before Isabella could leave.
“You cannot detain me,” she protested. “Do you know who my family is?”
Adrian looked at the shattered glass, the overturned table, and the red mark spreading along Khloe’s side.
“Yes,” he said. “And soon everyone else will know exactly who you are.”
Elaine stood near the doorway, pale and silent.
She had witnessed the final seconds of the attack.
But she also knew something no one else did.
Earlier that evening, she had seen Isabella receiving a private hospital keycard from someone who should never have been near the gala.
Hospital security pulled up the hallway footage.
The video showed Isabella entering the suite.
Then it showed every shove.
Every threat.
Every strike.
Marcus watched in silence as Isabella’s heel slammed into his wife’s side.
The color drained from his face.
Isabella stopped pretending to cry.
“That footage was taken out of context.”
“No,” Marcus said quietly. “It wasn’t.”
The security director froze the video several minutes before Isabella entered.
Another figure had approached the suite.
A man in a tailored gray suit had used a master keycard to unlock the door from the outside.
The camera never captured his face.
But it captured the initials engraved on the silver cardholder in his hand.
R.T.
Marcus stared at the screen.
Only one person in his family carried those initials.
His father.
May you like
Richard Thorne.
And at that exact moment, Richard was already standing outside the operating room, demanding to know whether Khloe’s unborn child was still alive.
