Chapter 3: The Digital Web

The blue light from the terminal illuminated the tense faces in the suite, casting long, erratic shadows across the marble floor.

Marcus stepped away from Isabella, his boots clicking sharply as he crossed the room to stand beside Victor at the console.

"What is it?" Marcus demanded, his eyes scanning the dense columns of data scrolling down the monitor.

"Someone has been systematically draining proprietary research files from your tech division over the last three months," Victor said, his finger scrolling rapidly through a series of encrypted access logs and financial wire transfers. "And the digital signature leading straight to the offshore routing accounts matches an IP address registered directly to Isabella’s personal estate."

Isabella staggered backward, her stiletto heel catching on a stray fragment of broken crystal, nearly causing her to tumble against the velvet sofa.

"That's a lie! Anyone can spoof an IP address!" Isabella shrieked, her carefully cultivated veneer of elegance completely shattered, leaving behind a desperate, cornered animal. "You're framing me because you want to protect your precious golden-boy marriage!"

Khloe pushed herself up from the armchair, ignoring the dull ache in her side as she walked slowly toward Isabella, her gaze burning with an intensity that silenced the other woman instantly.

"You thought you could destroy my family, push me down a flight of stairs—or into a marble table—and walk away wearing a designer gown," Khloe said, her voice low and rhythmic, carrying the weight of weeks of suppressed humiliation. "You thought my silence meant weakness."

"I didn't do any of this!" Isabella screamed, her voice cracking as she looked wildly around the room for an escape route, only to find Marcus blocking the door and Victor standing guard by the console.

"The video shows the assault, the audio records your confession, and now the financial forensics link your corporate espionage directly to your personal accounts," Victor stated coldly, picking up his secure desk phone to dial direct lines to both the city police commissioner and the hospital's legal counsel. "You aren't just facing assault charges, Isabella. You're looking at federal industrial espionage."

Elaine Parker covered her face with her hands, whimpering softly in the corner as she realized she had escorted a corporate saboteur directly into a high-security maternity wing.

"Please," Isabella whispered, her knees finally buckling as she slid down the velvet sofa until she sat on the floor, her expensive crimson dress pooling around her like a puddle of fresh blood. "Marcus... tell them to stop. We... we had dinner last month. You know me."

Marcus looked down at her with absolute disgust, his expression as cold and impassive as carved granite.

"I knew a woman who pretended to be a charity patron and a friend," Marcus replied flatly. "The person sitting on that floor is a stranger I intend to see locked away for a very long time."

Victor spoke quietly into the phone, giving precise instructions to security personnel stationed in the lobby to lock down all exits and detain any accomplices attempting to flee the premises.

"Security teams are sealing the perimeter," Victor announced, hanging up the receiver with a sharp click. "The police are five minutes away."

Isabella remained motionless on the floor for a long moment, her chest heaving as silent, furious tears of defeat tracked lines through her expensive makeup.

Then, slowly, a twisted, chilling smile crept across her lips.

"You think the police are going to save you?" Isabella whispered, her voice barely audible above the hum of the ventilation system. "You think I acted alone because I was jealous of your little pregnant wife?"

Marcus stepped forward, his eyes narrowing. "What are you talking about?"

May you like

"I'm talking about the fact," Isabella hissed, her eyes locking onto Khloe with venomous satisfaction, "that someone much more powerful than you two combined funded every single file transfer tonight... and they're already inside this building."

Before anyone could process her warning, the overhead lights in the private suite flickered violently, died, and plunged the room into absolute darkness.
