The ropes were gone.

Sunlight poured through open windows while the twins laughed from their playpen.
Emily no longer worked as a nanny.
She had become the director of the Cole Family Children's Foundation, an organization Daniel created to help single parents and abused caregivers.
Her son had fully recovered and had become inseparable from the twins.
Daniel finalized his divorce and transferred part of his fortune into a trust dedicated to his children's future.
One afternoon, as the twins took their first unsteady steps across the nursery floor, Emily smiled through quiet tears.
"They're going to be okay."
Daniel looked at his children, then at the woman who had risked everything to protect them.
"They already are."
