The nursery door slowly creaked open.
Victoria stepped inside as if nothing had happened.
Her cream silk dress was flawless. The crystal wine glass was gone, but the scent of expensive perfume and red wine still lingered around her.
She stopped when she saw Daniel standing beside the bed.
For the first time all day...
Her expression cracked.
"Daniel?" she asked carefully. "You're home early."
Daniel didn't answer.
His jaw tightened as he looked from his wife to Emily's bleeding wrists.
"What," he said quietly, "did you do?"
Victoria forced a smile.
"Oh, this?"
She laughed softly.
"Emily became hysterical. She threatened to run away with the babies while I was trying to calm her."
Emily shook her head violently.
"No!"
Her voice broke.
"She's lying!"
Daniel stepped closer to Victoria.
"I asked one question."
His eyes burned into hers.
"So answer it."
Victoria's confidence began slipping.
"I was only protecting our children."
Daniel reached behind Emily and pulled a hidden security camera from the top shelf.
The tiny green light was still blinking.
"I installed this last month."
Victoria's face instantly lost all color.
"It records everything."
Silence filled the nursery.
