Chapter 5 — A New Beginning

Chapter 5 — A New Beginning

Three weeks later, Anna went into labor.

This time, I never left her side.

After hours of labor, our daughter entered the world with a strong, healthy cry.

Anna smiled through tears as she placed the baby in my arms.

"She's beautiful."

I kissed my daughter's forehead.

"And she'll never know what fear feels like inside her own home."

Months passed.

Our new house was small compared to the old one.

But every room was filled with laughter instead of silence.

One afternoon, I found Anna wearing one of the dresses she hadn't touched in nearly a year.

She caught me smiling.

"What?"

"I missed seeing you happy."

She smiled back.

"So did I."

Outside, our little daughter slept peacefully in her stroller.

Inside, our home finally felt like a home.

Sometimes protecting your family doesn't mean saving everyone.

Sometimes it means having the courage to walk away from the people who refuse to change.

And on the night I chose my wife and daughter over fear...

I finally became the husband—and father—they deserved.
