Chapter 3 — The Truth Comes Out
Chapter 3 — The Truth Comes Out
At the hospital, doctors immediately examined Anna.
Fortunately, the baby was healthy.
But Anna wasn't.
The doctor quietly pulled me aside.
"Your wife is severely exhausted."
"Her blood pressure is dangerously unstable."
"Has she been under prolonged emotional stress?"
I couldn't answer.
Because I already knew.
Hours later, while Anna slept, a nurse approached me.
"Your wife asked us not to tell you this..."
She handed me a small notebook.
Inside were months of handwritten entries.
Every page documented another incident.
"She threw away my prenatal vitamins."
"She said I didn't deserve this baby."
"She woke me at two in the morning to scrub the kitchen floor."
"I don't want Michael to lose his mother because of me."
The final page was written only hours earlier.
"If anything happens to me tonight... I hope Michael never blames himself."
My hands shook so badly I could barely finish reading.
That was the moment I realized my mother hadn't just been cruel.
May you like
She had been systematically destroying my wife.
And I had failed to see it.
