Chapter 5 – The Home Became a Family Again
Two months later, the house looked completely different.
The sink was empty.
Fresh flowers sat on the kitchen table.
Children's laughter echoed through every room.
Lily was healthy again, chasing bubbles across the backyard.
Maya's pregnancy had stabilized after weeks of rest and proper medical care.
Marcus had hired a housekeeper despite Maya insisting she could manage.
"You've already done enough," he told her.
"Now let us take care of you."
One sunny afternoon, Edward arrived carrying a tiny rocking chair he had built himself for his future granddaughter.
As he assembled it in the nursery, he smiled at Maya.
"You know what impressed me most?"
She looked up.
"What?"
"You never asked for revenge."
"You only wanted peace."
A few weeks later, Maya gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Brenda and Rachel were not invited to the hospital.
Months afterward, they each mailed handwritten letters asking for forgiveness.
Marcus read them quietly.
Then handed them to Maya.
"It's your decision."
Maya folded the letters carefully before placing them inside a drawer.
"I forgive them."
She said softly.
"But forgiveness doesn't mean giving people another chance to hurt your children."
Marcus smiled and kissed her forehead.
Outside, Lily laughed as Edward pushed her on the backyard swing.
Inside, their newborn daughter slept peacefully in the handmade rocking chair.
The house finally felt warm again.
