Chapter 4 – A Grandfather's Unexpected Visit

Chapter 4 – A Grandfather's Unexpected Visit
Thirty minutes later, another car stopped outside.
Marcus's father stepped inside without speaking.
Edward had built one of the largest construction companies in the state.
But today he wasn't arriving as a businessman.
He was arriving as a grandfather.
The moment he saw Lily coughing in Marcus's arms, his expression hardened.
He crossed the room, gently touched Maya's forehead, then looked around the filthy kitchen.
His eyes settled on Brenda.
"I warned you."
Brenda immediately burst into tears.
"Edward, you've misunderstood—"
"No."
He interrupted quietly.
"I understood the first report."
"The second."
"And the third."
He walked toward the dining table and placed one final envelope beside Marcus.
"These are the eviction papers."
Brenda gasped.
"You can't evict me!"
Edward looked at her with heartbreaking disappointment.
"I already did."
"The guest house belongs to the trust."
"You have thirty days."
Rachel's knees nearly gave out.
Everything they believed they owned...
Had disappeared before lunch.
Edward turned toward Maya.
"I'm sorry."
"I should have protected you sooner."
For the first time in weeks...
Maya finally cried openly.
May you like
Not from fear.
From relief.
