Chapter 4: Justice Arrives

Two detectives entered the mansion the next morning.
Victoria tried to maintain her composure.
"This is ridiculous."
One detective unfolded a warrant.
"We're investigating allegations of financial fraud, unlawful restraint, assault, and interference with emergency medical communication."
Victoria looked at me.
"You called the police?"
"No."
Emily did.
The hospital had documented every missed emergency call.
The phone company recovered deleted recordings.
Security cameras inside the house had captured Victoria dragging Emily into the nursery.
There was nowhere left to hide.
As officers escorted Victoria outside, reporters were already gathering beyond the gates.
She turned back toward me one last time.
"You'll regret this."
I looked at our twins sleeping peacefully in my arms.
"I regret marrying someone capable of hurting innocent people."
