Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Nursery Door

The clicking of Victoria's heels stopped outside the nursery.
She pushed the door open with a calm smile, still holding her wine glass as though nothing unusual had happened.
"There you are," she said softly. "I wondered why you came home so early."
I looked from her elegant dress to Emily's bleeding wrists.
"What did you do?"
Victoria barely glanced at Emily.
"I disciplined an employee who forgot her place."
Emily lowered her eyes, afraid to speak.
I stepped between them.
"You tied her to our bed."
Victoria shrugged.
"She wanted to abandon our children because her sick son called. I couldn't trust her."
Emily finally spoke.
"My son wasn't just sick... he was dying."
Victoria rolled her eyes.
"Everyone dies eventually."
Silence filled the room.
I had lived with this woman for six years.
Shared a home.
Shared children.
Yet standing in front of me was someone I no longer recognized.
I untied Emily's wrists as carefully as I could.
The deep cuts made my stomach turn.
When the last knot fell away, Emily hugged the twins tightly before gently handing them to me.
Only then did she whisper the words that shattered my world.
"Sir... your wife didn't just stop me from leaving."
I looked at her.
"She turned off my phone."
Emily swallowed hard.
"She answered the hospital's calls herself... and told the doctors that I didn't care if my son lived or died."
My blood froze.
Victoria didn't deny it.

She simply smiled.
"I saved this family from unnecessary drama."
