Chapter 5: Silence Ends Here

Three months later, laughter once again filled the Montiel estate.

Little Santi crawled across the living room floor while Mateo helped him chase colorful toy blocks.

Lupita sat beside Rosa, refusing to let go of her mother's hand.

The mansion no longer felt haunted.

It finally sounded like a home.

Valeria was later convicted of attempted murder and child endangerment.

Her wealth could not erase the evidence.

Her influence could not silence the truth.

One afternoon, Tomás stood beside Rosa in the garden as Santi reached toward the sunlight with both tiny hands.

"I almost lost my son," he said quietly.

Rosa nodded.

"I almost lost myself."

Tomás looked at her.

"You saved him."

Rosa smiled gently.

"No."

"I simply stopped being afraid."

As the children laughed together beneath the warm afternoon sun, Rosa finally understood the lesson that had changed every life in that house.

Silence protects cruelty.
