Chapter 2 – The Truth Hidden in the Bracelet

The room remained silent.
Amara refused to let go of Marcus.
Her tiny fingers clung to the back of his suit as though she feared someone would pull her away again.
Danielle stared at them, her face pale.
"Amara," she said softly, forcing a smile. "Come back to Mommy."
The little girl didn't move.
Marcus gently rubbed Amara's back before looking at Danielle.
"You just told her she wasn't your daughter."
"I... I was angry."
"No."
His voice remained calm.
"You meant every word."
Danielle opened her mouth, but no sound came out.
Marcus slowly knelt until he was eye level with Amara.
"Sweetheart... may I see your bracelet?"
Amara looked at the silver bracelet on her wrist.
"My grandma gave it to me."
Marcus froze.
His mother had owned the exact same handmade bracelet.
There was only one like it.
He carefully turned it over.
Inside were four tiny engraved letters.
M & A
Marcus's breathing slowed.
His late mother had engraved those initials years ago.
Not for herself.
For the granddaughter she had always hoped to meet.
Marcus slowly stood.
"Where did she get this?"
Danielle's hands began to shake.
"You don't understand..."
"I think I understand more than you realize."
