Chapter 3 — An Unexpected Visitor

Nearly four months later, the grand opening attracted hundreds of visitors.

Families filled the showroom.

Children laughed as they explored the display vehicles.

Employees encouraged them to ask questions.

No one complained about fingerprints.

Late that afternoon, I noticed a familiar figure standing quietly near the entrance.

It was my former boss.

He looked ten years older.

His expensive suits were gone.

His shoulders were slumped.

He slowly approached me.

"I owe you an apology."

"I thought protecting cars mattered more than protecting people."

"I was wrong."

For a long moment, neither of us spoke.

Finally I answered.

"I accepted your apology the day I walked away."

"But forgiveness doesn't erase consequences."

He lowered his head.

"I understand."

Without another word, he turned and quietly left.

It was the last time I ever saw him.
