Chapter 2 — The Woman Who Never Left

Richard spent the entire night reading Emily's diary.
Every page revealed another secret.
She had written about Sophie's first smile.
Her first steps.
Her favorite bedtime songs.
The entries stopped only three weeks before Emily's sudden death.
But something didn't make sense.
Emily repeatedly described feeling perfectly healthy.
Yet Richard remembered being told she had suffered a rapid illness that doctors couldn't stop.
Near the end of the diary, one folded letter slipped onto the floor.
Across the front, Emily had written:
"For Richard—only if something happens to me."
His hands shook as he unfolded it.
Emily described arguments with Vanessa.
She confessed that Vanessa had slowly isolated her from friends, controlled household staff, and insisted on handling her medication.
Emily even wrote one sentence she had crossed out several times before leaving it visible.
"If I die unexpectedly... please don't believe it was natural."
Richard couldn't breathe.
The next morning, he hired one of the country's most respected private investigators.
Within days, former employees began coming forward.
One nurse admitted Vanessa insisted on delivering Emily's medication personally.
A housekeeper confessed she had once found prescription bottles with different labels than the pharmacy records.
Then investigators uncovered something even more disturbing.
Several pages from Emily's medical file had disappeared.
Someone had removed them years ago.
