Chapter 1 – The Wedding That Ended Before the Vows

The ballroom remained silent long after the venue manager finished speaking.

Patricia stared at the ownership agreement as though the paper itself had betrayed her.

"No," she whispered. "There has to be some mistake."

The manager calmly turned another page.

"There isn't."

He handed Clara a gold access card embossed with the estate's crest.

"Ownership transferred at 8:00 this morning. Every employee has already been notified."

One by one...

The security staff.

The event coordinators.

The chefs.

Even the musicians.

They all lowered their heads toward Clara.

Patricia looked around in disbelief.

"Why is everyone standing there?" she demanded.

"I'm telling you to remove her!"

No one moved.

Instead, the head of security stepped beside Clara.

"Mrs. Mason," he said respectfully, "your instructions?"

Andrew finally found his voice.

"Clara... why didn't you ever tell me?"

She looked at him for a long moment.

"You never asked."

The words struck harder than any accusation.

Andrew remembered every conversation.

Every time she had tried to talk about her work.

Every time he interrupted.

Every time his mother answered for him.

He had fallen in love with the woman...

But never cared enough to learn her story.

Patricia suddenly laughed.

A desperate laugh.

"So what if you own the building?"

"My son is still leaving here with his wife."

Clara slowly removed her engagement ring.

The diamond caught the chandelier's light.

"I don't think he has a wife anymore."

She placed the ring gently inside Andrew's trembling hand.

The ceremony was over.

Without a single vow.

But that wasn't the end.

It was only the beginning.
