Chapter 3

CHAPTER 3 — THE WOMAN IN THE WHEELCHAIR

The doors closed behind Chloe.

The ballroom slowly returned to breath—but not comfort.

Victoria remained seated beneath the golden chandelier light. Champagne still stained her jade-green dress, but she made no attempt to clean it.

A guest cautiously stepped forward.

“Madam Sterling… we weren’t aware you were attending personally.”

Victoria adjusted her glove calmly.

“I don’t usually attend events like this,” she said.

A pause.

Then she added softly:

“But I attend when people forget how to behave.”

The man bowed slightly and stepped back immediately.

Across the room, whispers now shifted from curiosity to respect.

Victoria looked around once more.

Not searching for validation.

Just observing.

Then she spoke into her earpiece again.

“Prepare the acquisition list. Cancel Harrington holdings in the West portfolio.”

A brief pause.

“Permanently.”

The order was quiet.

But absolute.

The chandelier lights shimmered above her as the entire room finally understood one thing:

The woman in the wheelchair had never been powerless.

She had simply been watching.

ENDING

That night, Chloe Harrington lost her reputation, her influence, and her family’s standing in a single room.

But Victoria Sterling did not gain anything new.

She only revealed what had always been true:
