Chapter 3: The Family That Thought It Was Untouchable

The next morning, the Whitmore estate hosted its annual charity breakfast.
Television cameras lined the entrance.
Business executives, politicians, and donors filled the ballroom.
Margaret Whitmore stood confidently at the podium.
"Our family has always believed in justice, integrity, and giving back to the community."
The applause had barely begun when the ballroom doors opened.
Six federal investigators entered in dark suits.
Behind them came uniformed officers.
Every conversation stopped.
Daniel frowned.
"What is this?"
Richard Hale walked in without raising his voice.
His leather portfolio rested calmly beneath one arm.
He approached the stage and handed Margaret an official warrant.
"You are under investigation for conspiracy, fraud, witness intimidation, tax evasion, and obstruction of justice."
Margaret laughed.
"You can't be serious."
Richard simply nodded toward the investigators.
"Search every office."
Within seconds, agents began collecting computers, financial ledgers, hard drives, and phones.
Guests slowly stepped away from the Whitmore family.
Reporters rushed toward the entrance.
Television cameras captured everything live.
Daniel's confident smile disappeared.
His father shouted for his attorneys.
Nobody listened.
