Chapter 6: No One Could Save Him

Chapter 6: No One Could Save Him

Two detectives entered the mansion with quiet authority.

Santiago immediately changed his voice.

The shouting disappeared.

The threats vanished.

In their place came the polished smile he used in public.

“Officers,” he said calmly, “my wife is emotional. She’s pregnant. She has been confused lately.”

I almost laughed.

That lie had once terrified me.

Now it sounded pathetic.

One of the detectives opened the folder.

“We have the documents.”

The second detective looked directly at Beatriz.

“And the recordings.”

Beatriz’s expression hardened.

“I only wanted to protect my grandson.”

My father’s face turned colder.

“You tried to steal him from his mother.”

Santiago pointed at me.

“She planned this. She trapped me.”

For the first time that night, I stepped forward.

My hands still rested over my belly.

My voice shook, but it did not break.

“No, Santiago.”

“You trapped yourself.”

The detective read him his rights.

When the handcuffs closed around his wrists, Santiago looked at me with disbelief.

Not regret.

Not shame.

Only disbelief that I had survived long enough to fight back.

Then the second detective approached Beatriz.

Her face collapsed.

“No,” she whispered. “You can’t arrest me. I am Beatriz Rivas.”

The detective answered calmly.

“Not tonight.”

As they led mother and son out through the grand doors, reporters were already gathering beyond the gate.

By sunrise, the whole city knew.

The perfect philanthropist.

The respected family.

The empire built on lies.

All of it was gone.

And for the first time in my marriage...

I slept without fear.
