Chapter 2: The Man Who Owned Their Future
Chapter 2: The Man Who Owned Their Future
Silence swallowed the mansion.
The ticking of the antique silver clock suddenly sounded deafening.
Santiago stared at the man standing in the doorway.
His lips parted.
"...Mr. Salazar?"
For the first time in years, fear replaced arrogance.
Ricardo Salazar walked forward without rushing.
His polished shoes echoed across the marble floor.
Every step carried the quiet confidence of a man who had spent decades deciding the fate of billion-dollar companies.
His attorneys followed behind him.
The security team remained at the entrance.
No one spoke.
Ricardo stopped beside Valeria.
Without asking a single question, he gently removed his overcoat and wrapped it around his daughter's trembling shoulders.
His eyes briefly examined the redness on her cheek.
The bruises hidden beneath the sleeve of her dress.
The tears she had tried so hard not to shed.
When he finally looked at Santiago...
His expression became ice.
"So..."
"This is how you've treated my daughter."
Santiago forced a nervous laugh.
"There must be some misunderstanding."
"I think Valeria forgot to explain—"
"My daughter," Ricardo interrupted quietly, "has never lied to me."
Beatriz stepped forward, still trying to maintain control.
"Mr. Salazar, perhaps we should discuss this privately."
Ricardo didn't even glance at her.
"My attorneys already have."
One attorney calmly placed a thick folder on the marble table.
Inside were photographs.
Medical reports.
Bank transfers.
Hidden recordings.
Copies of forged psychiatric evaluations.
Every document Santiago believed had remained hidden.
The attorney spoke.
"We've already submitted criminal complaints this afternoon."
"The police are reviewing evidence of fraud, conspiracy, domestic violence, coercive control, attempted unlawful confinement, and document forgery."
Santiago's face drained of color.
"Impossible..."
"You couldn't know about those files."
Ricardo looked toward the antique silver clock.
"No."
"My daughter knew."
"And she recorded everything."
The attorney pressed a button on a small tablet.
The entire room filled with Santiago's own voice.
"You're nothing without me."
"After the baby is born... you'll disappear."
Then Beatriz's voice echoed through the mansion.
"No one will ever notice."
The recording ended.
No one moved.
Even the security guards remained perfectly still.
Ricardo finally spoke.
"Your empire was never yours."
"It survived because my bank kept extending credit."
He nodded toward another attorney.
"Call every lender."
"Effective immediately..."
"All financing ends tonight."
Within seconds, phones began ringing.
Across Mexico City, executives were receiving emergency notices.
Credit lines frozen.
Loans accelerated.
Partnerships suspended.
The Rivas empire had just begun collapsing.
And there was nothing Santiago could do to stop it.
