Chapter 5: The Night the Rivas Empire Fell

For several seconds, no one moved.

Santiago stared at Ricardo Salazar as if he had seen a ghost walk into his home wearing a black overcoat and carrying the weight of judgment in his eyes.

“Mr. Salazar...” Santiago whispered.

Then his gaze shifted to me.

To my face.

To my stomach.

To the coat my father gently placed around my shoulders.

And finally, the truth landed.

I was not Valeria Mendoza.

I was Valeria Salazar.

My father turned to one of the attorneys behind him.

“Begin.”

The attorney stepped forward and placed a folder on the marble table.

Inside were copies of everything Santiago and Beatriz had tried to hide.

The forged psychiatric records.

The custody petitions.

The insurance policies.

The recordings.

The signatures.

Beatriz’s wine glass trembled for the first time.

Santiago tried to laugh.

“This is a family matter.”

My father looked at him coldly.

“No. This is a criminal matter.”

A tablet screen lit up.

Santiago’s own voice filled the foyer.

“If you don’t sign those papers tomorrow, your baby is going to grow up without a mother.”

The words echoed beneath the chandelier.

Santiago’s face went pale.

Beatriz slowly backed toward the staircase.

My father didn’t raise his voice.

He didn’t need to.

“Your company survives on my loans,” he said. “Your investors trust you because I allowed them to.”

He turned to his attorney.

“Freeze everything.”

Santiago stepped forward.

“You can’t do that.”

My father looked at him.

“I already did.”

At that moment, Santiago’s phone began ringing.

Then Beatriz’s.

Then the house phone.

One call after another.

Banks.

Board members.

Investors.

Partners.

Every lifeline Santiago had built began snapping at once.

And while he stood there watching his empire collapse...

The police arrived.
