Chapter 3 — The Family Chooses Sides

Chapter 3 — The Family Chooses Sides
By evening, the entire family had arrived.
Patricia had called them first.
She expected sympathy.
Instead...
Mason played the recordings.
Nobody interrupted.
Nobody defended her.
When the final video ended, Mason's uncle quietly stood.
"I believed every word Patricia told us."
He looked toward Lena.
"I owe you an apology."
One by one...
The rest of the family followed.
Even Mason's older cousin admitted,
"We thought you were refusing help."
Lena smiled weakly.
"I never wanted anyone to choose sides."
Mason squeezed her hand.
"This isn't about sides."
"It's about truth."
Patricia looked around the room.
Not one person met her eyes.
For the first time in years...
She had no audience.
Only consequences.

She quietly picked up her suitcase and walked toward the door.
Nobody stopped her.
